Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
Really, really didn't like the new theme music, and it may have benefitted from being five minutes shorter, but other than that, very, very good.
The boy Smith did the programme proud, Karen Gillan is very engaging, and the new Tardis looks lovely on screen.
I need to watch it again before marking it properly, but probably 4 out of 5.

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
Matt Smith nailed the role.
Karen Gillan was good.
The theme echoes back to Delia, which is good in my book, but the title sequence isn't right. Why did they change something that wasn't broke?
I didn't like what I saw of the Tardis interior. It looks cramped, which is madness.
The story itself was ok. Many Moffat tropes in evidence, excellent dialogue, all handled really well by the cast. I have high hopes for the future.

4/5 awesome. Especially the first 20 minutes.
Awful theme music, though - more like Gary Glitter than Delia.

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
Looks like I'm out of sync then - 2/5. Thought it was far too long and just far too dull at times, Smith was too self-consciously wacky while Gillan and whoever played Rory were wooden. Oh, and I preferred the script when it was called 'Smith and Jones' and shown three years ago.
Edit: Oh yes, and the new theme tune's horrible.

You miserable old grump. Voters don't like that!
So many great vibes and references. From The Avengers to Sperahead from Space. Plus the Sea Devil in the flash back. Hooray.

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
I gave it a three, here...Almost a four.
Husband thought, 'It'll need to improve a bit.'
We both thought that wee Caitlin Blackwood was marvellous. I reckon that Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are going to be a great team.
My darling husband thinks that Miss Gillan has 'a braw pair of pins'. He's obviously feeling better.

Major Minor, I think that fire truck could take lessons from you in how to properly sound a convincing siren.
I'm going to have to rate this one very highly. That little Atraxi video clip where Matt steps through David Tennant- brilliant way to establish he really is the Doctor. Although I'm not sure I agree that bow ties are cool.

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
I've now gone back and watched it a second time, and a feeling I had upon first viewing has only increased: was anyone else struck by how this episode seemed to have been informed (if that's the right word to use) by The Prisoner?
The Atraxi eye, very like the eye No. 2 used to spy on The Village. The prisoner himself didn't have a name, but a number that became very important to the story. Even Amy's village bore a bit of a resemblance to The Village, where everyone knew her, and knew all about her delusion (the ragged Doctor.) All of this while the Doctor was attempting to establish himself as "who da man", rather like No. 6 was constantly attempting in The Prisoner.
One of the things I liked about The Prisoner was its surreal presentation. If the Moff has decided to employ The Prisoner as a sort of metaphor, I'm all in on that idea.

Avengers? Missed that one--could you flesh it out for me? (Yes, I did watch decent chunks of the original 60s series. I think there was a remake but I missed it...) And... I suppose any regeneration story will have a dash of Spearhead, but what were you specifically thinking of?The Co=Ordinator wrote:So many great vibes and references. The hospital that Rory works at bears a bit of a resemblance to the one UNIT took the comatose 3rd Doctor to, and the Doctor steals his clothes from the hospital locker room, which is what Doctors 3 and 8 did. You even get a topless Doctor, a trend started by Pertwee in Spearhead.
Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
Thanks Dave.
Avengers? The whole English village, man with slavering rottweiler, cottage hospital stuff.

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour"
Thoroughly enjoyed that - Smith was as good as Party Animals had led me to expect he would be (a nicely physical performance - almost Depp-esque at times), Gillan is lovely and wide-eyed and lovely and redheaded and Scottish and lovely, and the fairytale tone sat well with me (not too different in feel from what has gone before, either, which is nice). Next to no plot, but it's a new Doctor story, so that's gonna happen. Easily the second best series-opener of revived times (and 'Smith and Jones' will take some beating). Lovely stuff!
On the negative side, theme tune and titles are rubbish, obviously, and, although I liked the exterior very much, the inside of the TARDIS didn't grab me at all (I liked a lot of the details, when shown in close-up, but overall it jarred - and if it's three times bigger than the old one, how come it looks smaller?).
Looking forward to the series as a whole, too.
Overall, McCoy out of ten. Loved it.

- Spoiler:
- Even if there was a spaceship in the trailer - dangerous hints of science-fiction there. At least there were lots of brightly coloured lasers, I suppose...
