Torchwood: Miracle Day - Pre transmission discussion

Filming of the pilot for Season Four, made in the USA, has allegedly taken place.

No idea if I should be saying 'oh good' or 'oh dear'.

Oh dear would be very negative, so I'm going for oh good.

Filming in the US? You know, I rather liked the fact that all the alien invasions seemed to be limited to the UK. I guess my faint hope that the aliens would not find their way across the pond has just gone up in smoke.

What was it Mr. Copper referred to us as? Ham-merica? Now that John Barrowman is here, he has a point.

Keep an eye out for Rose and Handy as part of the cast. Or failing that, the Torchwood blimp.

That'll play well in Alabama.

BBC Worldwide have issued a statement saying that BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format. We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.

Fox's involvement in developing an American version of the series was first reported in January. Russell T Davies was reported to be writing a pilot script, with Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter acting as executive producers. Tranter said that despite the withdrawal of Fox from the project, it is "still very much ongoing and very much alive."

Tranter has also dismissed rumours that an American version of Doctor Who was being planned. "It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time" she said, "there is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening".

There's an interesting Colorado connection in this. Starz media is a subsidiary of Liberty Media Group, and Liberty is headquartered about a five minute drive from my house in Centennial, Colorado.

Good news.

Interesting that they've partnered with Starz to make it - they're the same network behind the new Spartacus series, which likely means Torchwood won't be the show with the most sex and violence on that channel!

And the other show that Starz are making is the King Arthur series by Chibnall!

Series 4 to be called "The New World".

I doubt I'll bother watching this. It sounds like they've Americanised the whole thing.

You never know spara, it could be worth giving it a go.

I have my doubts. But knowing that the main team is still behind it gives me hope. And at the end of the day it is part of the WHOniverse.

People had doubts about "Children of Earth".

I may watch the first episode however I don't hold out much hope. Its being rebooted to pull in a mass US audience. Admittedly that could mean that its going to be something good, after all the US did produce Star Trek. On the other hand it could be formulaic populist tripe.
