Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
A few thoughts:
If 12 is appearing at the end of the anniversary special, then have they been cast? Or are auditions ongoing, and whoever it is will be added in during a later (Xmas?) filming block. (And the additional thought from that is who's doing the auditioning? Just Moffat, as he's signed on for S8 or is Whithouse/Chibnall/Gatiss/Uncle Tom Cobley having an input if they're taking over with this new Doctor?)
And on a story point, if Hurt really is an 'extra' (8.5?) Doctor then the 'fall of the Eleventh' has either already happened, or doesn't refer to the Doctor. And, of course expect fandom to fap itself to death with Valeyard and 'the Thirteenth Doctor means the whole series must end' theories.

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
Hurt confirms he's playing The Doctor.
This is allegedly the synopsis of The Name of The Doctor. Will put it in spoiler tags, as if correct, it blows a huge amount.
I do not guarantee any of the above, but I'm hearing very good things about this story - unlike Nightmare in Silver.

- Spoiler:
- Clara is privy to a conversation she'd rather not have heard. Something rings a bell in her head though. She is remembering the unrememberal............
The Doctor is forced to travel to Trenzalore, with Clara and River Song. - this is possibly a graveyard planet. On Trenzalore they must enter something they know is a trap. The spring is the Doctor's name. We do not hear this, but River speaks it.
It is a trap laid by the Great Intelligence. He has all the Doctor's past trapped in a Pandorica like prison and only needs the eleventh Doctor to finish the job.
Clara tries to save the Doctor, but is splintered in Time similar to the Jagaroth - these are the "other" Claras met by the Doctor.
ALL the other Doctors feature in a Trials and Tribble-ations style way. Brief clips, including a colourised Hartnell, and a cliffhanger from Dragonfire, amongst others. Presumably all upgraded to HD!
It ends with Another Doctor no one knew existed, being released from a Time Lock. 8.5. This leads into the Anniversary special.
I do not guarantee any of the above, but I'm hearing very good things about this story - unlike Nightmare in Silver.

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
- Spoiler:
- First Doctor - some newly shot footage of him and Susan stealing the TARDIS on Gallifrey. He turns to see Clara and this may be colourised footage of Hartnell in An Unearthly Child.
Second Doctor - running in his big coat from The Five Doctors.
Third Doctor - in Bessie from The Five Doctors.
Fourth Doctor - The Invasion of Time.
Fifth Doctor - from Arc of Infinity.
Sixth Doctor - unclear.
Seventh Doctor - hanging from the cliff in Dragonfire.
Madame Vastra sets up a telepathic link to contact Clara across time at the beginning of the episode, and she also contacts River Song who now just exists as a consciousness inside the library. River stays telepathically linked to Clara throughout the episode but is not physically there. When she is interacting with Clara no one else can see her."
A couple of small images from the finale.

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
I have heard a rumour that when Matt Smith returns from filming in Hollywood in September, production will begin on a Christmas Day and a New Year's Day Special. Then that is a Golden Wrap for Matt Smith at the end of October. A full 13 episode Series 34, with a new Doctor, will go into production in January, for broadcast in one block from September to Christmas. No news on a Christmas '14 Special.

That certainly sounds reasonable Cat.

Intriguing, Rich. If he does a 4th season, it'll mean he ties Tennant for length of stay in the role.

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
So, he's off. My friend of a friend was spot on, and Matt Smith will soon be an ex-Doctor. More's the pity, I would have liked to see more stories featuring Doctor#11 and Clara. No word yet about the New Year's Day special my friend of a friend mentioned. However, as Matt Smith said in an interview he would be staying until 2014 and Season Eight, a New Year's Day episode would make that statement technically correct. First of January is undeniably 2014, and the Christmas Special is usually regarded as the start of the next year's production, so an additional episode over the festive period would be part of Series Eight.
So, to Doctor#12. I would like to see Marshall Lanchester, who played the nice but dim DC Chris Skelton in Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, take over the role.

Lanchester?
Marshall Lancaster was Chris Skelton in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, and played Buzzer in The Rebel Flesh and The Almost People.

I think you're mixing up Marshall Lanchester from Manchester with Marshall Lancaster from Lancaster. different blokes.

Ah yes. "A Lanchester always spays his pets" Excellent line. Tyrion would make a great Doctor. What was it he said in Series One? Something about as a sword needs a whetstone to keep it sharp, so his brain needs wine and boobs?

I'm feeling mischievous. How about we start a rumor that Matthew Waterhouse will be the next Doctor, just to enjoy the reaction?

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
The Co=Ordinator wrote:Here are some spoilers. As always, there may be howlers in here as well - who knows? That's for time to tell, it always does.
50th Anniversary Special
Executive Producer. Steven Moffat.
Working Title “Doctor Who?” written by Steven Moffat.
Directed by Nick Hurran.
Filming April 2013.
Running Time. 90 minutes.
Matt Smith as the Doctor
David Tennant as The Doctor
John Hurt as The Doctor
??? as The Doctor
Jenna Louise Coleman as Clara Oswald
Billie Piper as Rose Tyler
Joanna Page as Queen Elizabeth I
Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart
John Hurt is an incarnation The Doctor himself has forgotten about. In his timeline, this Doctor comes between the 8th and, what we thought was, the 9th. It was this Doctor fought the Time War, not McGann's or Eccleston's. He was so ashamed, and the Time War was so traumatic, that he regenerated.
We discover that the Hartnell Doctor is running from himself, as it was the Hurt version that advised him to leave Gallifrey in the first place. Hence Hurt’s Doctor’s TARDIS is the same as The First, and will use the interiors built for An Adventure in Space and Time. Notwithstanding this "new" Doctor, the will be no change in their numbering.
At the end of the episode there is a further surprise as The 12th Doctor appears. This shows Smith’s Doctor that his time is nearly over..............
Christmas Special
Executive Producer. Steven Moffat.
Working Title “Twelfth Night” written by Steven Moffat.
Filming September 2013
Running Time. 60 minutes
Matt Smith as the Doctor
??? as The Doctor
Jenna Louise Coleman as Clara Oswald
The Eleventh Hour reaches its final minute, as The Doctor regenerates into his 12th Incarnation.
Series 8
Executive Producer. Steven Moffat.
Filming 2014.
12 x 45 minute episodes.
??? as The Doctor
Jenna Louise Coleman as Clara Oswald
Apart from the fact that the Anniversary Special is 60 minutes long, this still holds true!
I've heard transmission of series 8 may start in early August. Not sure whether the 12th episode is a Christmas Special that will be held back.
Brian Minchin has already started work as Executive Producer, and together with Marcus Wilson, they are trying to lay down strict plans. The new Script Editor is Derek Ritchie, who Script Edited Wizards vs Aliens. He is meant to be very good.

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
I think we're looking at a Voyage of the Damned situation with the Anniversary special: essentially a commissioned for 60 minutes but "if you make it longer we don't mind" attitude (after all, 60 minutes is incredibly short for a cinema release, which the BBC would like to do with this.
The rumours I've heard regarding the series 8 is 12 episodes long is to do with them being classified as blocks of 14 for some reason (possibly sales abroad): therefore series 5 was sold as 13 episodes plus A Christmas Carol; series six as 13 episodes plus The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe; series seven as 5 episodes, The Snowmen and the back eight; and series eight as the Anniversary special, the 2013 Christmas special, and 12 more episodes.
I know Ben Daniel's name has been in the frame for a couple of years now, but it seems too... well known for it to be true. Anyone any ideas? I'm no longer up with what's happening in tv drama anymore, so I've not had my eyes on up and coming actors, but I'd almost guarantee that any new Doctor is in the Tennant/Smith mold of "appeared in the cast of a critically acclaimed drama and then headlined something on BBC2/3/4. Many of the usual subjects can be ruled out (Wishaw and Cummerbatch, for instance have said they would not like a job with too much publicity built into it that would certainly rule out wanting to appear in Doctor Who) and i almost imagine that a collective "Who?" will greet the new star.
Edited to add: does anyone know whether the rumour that Panini are loosing the Dr Who magazine license is true, which would coincide with the anniversary special? Supposedly the entity that used to be BBC magazines is taking over, partly down to Panini not being able to make the magazine available digitally. While I've contacts in Panini, I'm not as close as I used to be but was always told by people who worked there that the DWM staff were a law unto themselves and left alone to "get on with it" as long as they brought in sales (which tripled with the new series in 2005, making the PTB happy).

Re: The All-New Spoiler Thread
I heard the Ben Daniels rumour at the same time as the rest of you, thanks to Tony, and given the other information around it - that he was linked with Whithouse taking over the series - there's other circumstantial evidence that fits in with that, especially Brian Minchin's arrival.
However, there doesn't seem to have been the same rush of confirmation that it is him as there was when Tennant got the role - bookies have him as a favourite, but not with the sort of odds-on numbers you'd expect if it was generally known he was. So, I do wonder if Daniels is the new Paterson Joseph/BRIAN BLESSED!/Fulton Mackay/Ron Moody (and was there ever any explanation of the Joseph stories from last time?)
I still tend to think it is Daniels, but the various mentions of Rory Kinnear I've heard over the last month or so do make me wonder...
Oh, and I know this is the spoiler thread, but in spoilers anyway because it's a rumour I heard about the identity of the Hurt Doctor:
