Who will be announced on DWC 3rd January as the 11th Doctor?
Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
Okay, okay. I just got the impression that he wanted to move his career up a gear by doing more work in America and less in the UK.
I mean, have you seen the exchange rate for the dollar recently?

Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
I think Tennant wants to go and work in the US too - so he might want Nesbitt out of the way to cut down the competition!
But seriously, after the way Philip Rhys hastily backtracked in that interview, I'm 90% sure it's Paterson Joseph.

I hope so, otherwise it would be a waste of a dashed fine avatar!

Show him some of Tony Ingram's or Dervish's posts, I'm sure he'd jump at the chance.
Do you want to make him run for his life??

Possibly. It would certainly make an amusing clip on "Actors Do The Funniest Things", or somesuch "quality" ITV entertainment of that ilk.millerqueen wrote:Do you want to make him run for his life??

Its that old RTD thing about doing something because he knows it'll upset the mosquitos.
I suppose that only works if you're already fan, though, and you know how fandom works!
Normal people would run a mile from some of those on DWF, probably.
I wouldn't know, I'm not normal.

Why my dear fellow, I beg to differ. Why, you're certainly at least as normal as anybody here - and almost as normal as I, me, myself.Balbinder Mann wrote:I wouldn't know, I'm not normal.

Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
Just popping in for a minute having caught up with the Philip Rhys interview. Difficult to tell if that was a deliberate or a genuine slip there but there seems to be a critical mass now forming around Paterson, doesn't there?
Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
Hello Frank. There certainly is. It'll go one of two ways.
1. It was a genuine slip of the tonque by Philip Rhys which has, once and for all, blown the lid .
2. It was part of the biggest hoax ever perpetuated by the BBC.

Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
The problem with theory 2 is that I can't work out what the point of such a hoax would be. I could understand it being leaked to various sources as a ruse, but why involve Philip Rhys and various parts of BBC News as well? (Presumably, Paterson Joseph would have to be involved as well...)
Re: So, the 11th Doctor...
Well at the very least it ensures a certain amount of additional publicity for Survivors. But I'm not altogether convinced it's anything close to being a full-blown conspiracy. More a happy accident that some sharp bod at the BBC has taken maximum advantage of.Nick Barlow wrote:The problem with theory 2 is that I can't work out what the point of such a hoax would be. Out of curiousity, how far in advance of that final scene in Parting of the Ways was it announced that Tennant would be taking the role?

Ah, but that was an entirely different and, indeed, exceptional set of circumstances. The BBC press offfice's staggeringly bad judgement in the Eccleston is leaving mess means that that set of circumstances resulted in an acceleration of events that certainly RTD, and nobody else in authority at the Beeb, in any way desired.Patrick wrote:Out of curiousity, how far in advance of that final scene in Parting of the Ways was it announced that Tennant would be taking the role?

I understand the circumstances were different, but I'm curious of the timing. How far in advance of Tennant's first appearance in the TARDIS was the announcement made? And would that interval serve as something of a benchmark for when we might expect a formal announcement about who Tennant's replacement will be?

IIRC Eccleston's announcement of steeping down was 31 March 2005, the Tennant was confimed as replacement by the BBC in a press release on 16 April 2005. With his first actual substantial appearance in the role on 18 November 2005.
So no, I don't really think Tennant can be used as any kind of useful benchmark. I suspect we'll only know for certain who the winning candidate is either just prior to his starting filming for series five or at best very slightly before then.

And I think that it will be leaked, at least to OW!!!! or OG, waaaaaaaaaaaay before then.
