Are you saying that Ben Chatham isn't in the finale?

He should've been in End of Time's companion montage.

Re: The start of a new era
OK folks, there appears to have been a preview of some sort today. Not sure if it was the big press launch though - probably too soon for that. Anway, this comes from someone who said Eccleston was no good, which means he's more than likely talking out of his arse.
New titles very nice
Tardis interior superb
Script beautifully written
Matt Smith awful. Bad Troughton impersonation
Karen Gillan awful.
Make of that what you will!

Re: The start of a new era
I think it translates as :
New titles absolutely brilliant
TARDIS interior blow-your-socks-off awesome
Script: a true masterpiece !
Matt Smith: even better than Tennant
Karen Gillan: best. companion. ever.

Perhaps she looks awful in the bits and bobs that C=O has seen so far?

I honestly dont give a tinkers cuss for the haters.
I am expecting to like and enjoy it. I may even be surprised by it.
and the wait is making it all the sweeter.
But Moff needs credit for the bold choices hes made.
Iv no doubt it will be nothing less than briliant.
and If its not, well at least we can be constructive and not all stcoop about it.

Re: The start of a new era
I'm still not 100% sure on Matt but I am sure that The Moff's scripts will be excellent and at least one episode will be deserving of classic status.

Crashlanding the TARDIS appears to be a favourite gimmick!
I really don't know what to think of it all...... To me the Doctor looks good, the Companion looks very affected and feigned. What do you think?
Listening to one of the interviews she gave just prior to that Special screening, I found her voice high pitched and grating.

I agree with C=O. By the time they get to the press launch for a new series, they're running on fumes. I'm not sure it's quite fair to judge anyone by the interviews they give at this stage.
Better to judge by the performances they give. And on that score, here's a little something to whet our appetites: BBC-America has been airing THIS TRAILER several times an hour every day. At this point, I'm pretty sold on Series 5.

This American Trailer is quite different from the UK ones....! WHY??
I feel the American one is more interesting.

I don't know that anyone can actually answer that, Suly. Apparently, BBC-America was given approval to reveal some images of the upcoming series that the BBC (UK) have decided not to reveal yet. I don't believe anyone here can explain why that happened, but I'm rather glad it did.

Re: The start of a new era
There's an interesting article here examining the differences in trailers, and its conclusion is that they are tailor made for different audiences:
All of which I agree with.
The British version leads with the female “companion”, an entry level character designed to drag you into the narrative. The American leads with Doctor, terribly heroic, terribly confident – whereas that’s more of a pull-back-and-reveal for the Brits. The British trailer is a bit more Show, with more consistent scenes, the US is a bit more Tell – with greater exposition.
All of which I agree with.

Re: The start of a new era
Interesting to compare the different airing times for ths same story.
UK 6.25pm
USA 9.00pm East Coast 8.00pm Central. Presumably 9.00pm West Coast
Conclusion - aiming for different audiences?

Re: The start of a new era
From my understanding, US tv is simply a completely different beast from UK tv. As I'm sure that Patrick, Zoltar or any of our other US Wriklies will agree with, there really is no such thing as early evening drama in the way that the UK has liked. There's daytime soaps and post 8.00pm drama, and especially, no child/adult crossover audience to be taken into account.
To my knowledge, the all important audience is the late teen/early adult one (I can't remember the actual ages, but it's something like 18-30) as they're deemed by the advertisers as having the most disposable income, and hence the audience they want to attract the most.
It's one of the reasons that there are always so many complaints whenever a genre programme is given a Friday timeslot in the US, as these programmes attract the 18-30 something audience the most, yet that audience is most likely to be out on a Friday night, hence low ratings, low advertising revenue, and quick cancellation.
US tv is very tightly banded and categorised, and the tragedy is that UK tv is heading in the same direction thanks to the Murdochs, amongst others. Just look at how they're promoting the idea of the 10.00 pm drama on Sky so much nowadays, something relatively rare in UK tv until now.
As has been said over the years, Doctor Who, in pretty well any of its incarnations, is a product of a very British system (and the BBC at that), and it would never have been invented anywhere else. It's uniqueness is both its strength and weakness, and I can understand Davies and Moffat being so worried about the eventual (and likely) future disbanding of the BBC as programmes such as Doctor Who would be the first to suffer.

Re: The start of a new era
Alongside the possibility of episodes 4 & 5 airing Saturday/Sunday (April 24th/25th), I think there's a chance the other 2 part stories may follow suit. Which would mean The Big Bang transmitting on Sunday June 6th.
