When will Series 6 start?

Ok folks, just a quick question - when do you think that the first episode of Series 6 will be transmitted on BBC One? This is not meant to be deep and meaningful or anything by the way!

Technically correct, as the Christmas Special is usually packaged together with the following series in the Box Sets. But when it comes to the start of the main series, or this year first half of the series, its wrong by a country mile.

Indeed. It's Moffat's way of keeping the spoiler situation under control.

Going with 23rd April as that's Easter weekend and it usually starts around then.

I suspect that Series 32a will start on Saturday, 26th March, 2011, at 7pm It will run until Saturday, 14th May, 2011.
I suspect that Series 32b will start on Saturday, 17th September, 2011 at 7pm. It will run until Saturday, 22nd October, 2011.
I also suspect that Series 33x will broadcast a 6pm on Christmas Day, Sunday, 25th December, 2011.

Word is that we could open with a "Doctor Who weekend" over Easter, with the 2 parter on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th April. Such an idea was, of course, mooted last year (IIRC for the Silurian 2 parter). Time will tell, etc.........

Time will tell indeed. I suppose we should be keeping an eye open for announcements of what other Easter goodies the Beeb have on tap. That might well make the possibility of this much clearer to determine.

I can indeed imagine - and the mental image fills me with dread. Gallifrey Base would be the first to fall.

Apparently DWM confirms that the new series begins on Easter weekend, and after episode 7 will take a short break over July and August. Episode 8 will resume the season in September.

If I were Steven Moffat I would be spitting feathers now. He goes to the Schedulers and says, if we split the series after seven weeks, then we will miss the potential good weather dip in ratings of May/June. So what do the Schedulers do, yes they split the series, but then start the first half on Easter Saturday. And not just any Easter Saturday, they chose the one that occurs on the last possible Saturday it it can be in any year. This means there is still a potential good weather ratings dip, as the last three episodes will be broadcasted in late May/Early June.

And then the second half of the series will be against X Factor, which isn't exactly going to be a ratings beauty.

Transmission time will be pre-X Factor, or maybe just a small overlap.

There's still this yawning chasm in the Saturday evening schedules straight after Christmas that is waiting for Doctor Who. But they won't bloody well fill it.

Series 6 premieres in the USA at 9PM EST 23rd April.

Has the new Controller of BBC ONE taken full charge of the channel yet? The scheduling of Series 32a could be the last stupid decision of Jay Hunt.

I'm hearing Good Friday & Easter Saturday for the opening 2 parter is a possibility.
