Rate "Revenge Of The Cybermen"

The time-ring given to the Doctor by the Time Lords returns himself, Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan (IS AN IDIOT!) to Nerva Beacon, but at a time 1,000 years before they left. So they have a wait in store while the TARDIS drifts backwards in time to collect them. What they find on the station (which is still in use at this time as a commercial interstellar navigational traffic control) is a crew being wiped out by a mysterious plague. The plague is the result of enemy action by the Cybermen, who are playing out a gambit to destroy what could easily be the deciding factor in humanity's war against them: Voga, the planet of gold.

I'm a big fan of Revenge. Far superior to Genesis. Have had the pleasure of meeting, and interviewing, the wonderful Christopher Robbie on several occasions - splendid fellow. So, what's not to love?

The Cybermats in this story weren't entirely convincing. At least I didn't find them so. But that's a minor quibble. Overall, it was a pretty solid plot, and the caves where they filmed were appropriately spooky. (I understand those caves are reputed to be haunted.) It isn't a perfect story, but I think it ended Sir Thomas of Baker's first season in the title part very well. 4/5.

Over the years, I've heard tales of strange and spooky events that beset the crew during the making of Revenge. All this merely adds to the mystique behind this story.
