cor dear...that was pretty bad. colin and nicola bryant awful and unlikable, poor guest cast(except brian glover), maurice colbourne wasted, terrible music, and a stupid, convoluted storyline that has eric saward and ian levine arguing over who wrote it.
a couple of uninspiring documentaries- the one on cybernetics had me nodding off- makes this a far from essential release.

Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
I have no idea what this story was actually about - possibly my brain made a desperate attempt to escape the seemingly-endless tedium by forcing itself into a coma halfway through. Or maybe there was actually no plot, purpose, or point to this putrid pile of pants.
No worse than a lot of other Baker Cs, mind you.
Troughton out of ten. Barely.

Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
Didn't Attack of the Cybermen win a UK Gold vote as the best story of the Colin Baker era?
That's hard to believe, when Vengence on Varos, Mark of the Rani and Revelation of the Daleks were options.

Some decent directional flashes, otherwise very very poor. Like Resurrection and Timelash it's one of the very few stories where neither the brain nor the heart is the right place...

poor colin must go down as the doctor with the worst stories- only "revelation of the daleks" stands out.
he's not a bad actor or anything i just find his doctor very difficult to warm to and in "attack of the cybermen" i'm afraid he's particularly hammy and unlikable.

He's never seen them, and while he lives in this house never will.
Oh, and I'm not going to vote on "Attack" until the DVD arrives and I've watched it: even though I must have watched it far too many times over the past 24 years.

Me too. I keep thinking "It can't be as bad as I remember..."
Attack is why, if I ever have fans, I will never, ever listen to them or attempt to make them happy.
Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant are hampered by costumes, a vague attempt at enticing fans by "fixing the chameleon circuit", there's an utterly pointless rebellion by a couple of blokes working in a quarry, the cybermen themselves are as hard as rice pudding...the whole thing is a load of convoluted bollocks and an attempt to make Doctor Who "edgy" and "gritty", which fails.
I loathe it.
Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
Last time i tried to watch it I got as far as the Doctor nearly falling down a hole in the junkyard with some comedy nearly-falling-down-hole music.

Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
Well it finally arrived, and The Ninja & I have now watched Attack.
I think this story is far better than generally perceived and gave it 4/5. It many ways it reminds me of a Second Doctor Story, and that's not just because of the whole Telos thing. I like the Cryons - yes honest guv, there's loads of Cyber destruction and some excellent performances - Colin, Maurice Colbourne and the brilliant Brian Griffiths to name but three.
So give it a break you old curmudgeons - I bet you're the ones who give Kinda & Snakedance an awesome 10/10!

Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
I think my biggest single objection is the sub-plot the two slaves. Not only does that whole thing make the Cybermen look crap, but they're killed for no reason turning the entire thing into a huge waste of time.
I know RTD likes to melt characters, but generally there's a point to the melting. Here, I just couldn't see it. Unneccessary nihilism doesn't make something dark, gritty, edgy or adult.

Re: Rate "Attack of the Cybermen"
4/5
It does have its faults and it does look shoddy in places but overall it's a great story that isn't as alienating as some may claim. It was also my first ever story so I have a natural soft spot for it.

I would agree, and have never claimed that any of these characteristics apply to Attack. Ultimately, despite its obvious shortcomings, I just happen to like it a lot, and consider it far superior to many other stories.
