The President of the High Council is assassinated, and the Doctor, newly returned to his home planet Gallifrey, is the prime suspect. The Doctor is fully aware someone is framing him, but who? To find out, he must rely on the help of the reluctant Castellan Kelner to unveil a traitor within the High Council itself. But beyond the apparent ambitions of Chancellor Goth lies yet another monster hoping to usurp the throne: the Master, emaciated, dying and vengeful. He hopes to harness the power of Lord Rassilon's greatest discover, and the secret at the heart of Time Lord power: The Eye Of Harmony. If he succeeds, it would mean the destruction of Gallifrey itself, and to stop him, the Doctor is going to have to do battle with the Master in the surreal landscape of the Matrix.
So, what did you think of The Deadly Assassin? Fascinating glimpse of Time Lord society, or did Mary Whitehouse have a point about the violence in the story? Let's be hearing from you!

I've always thought the stuff inside the Matrix goes on for too long. But it's still a very good story, and of course gave us Co=Ordinator Engin. 4/5.

Re: Rate "The Deadly Assassin"
I think the reason the scenes inside the Matrix seemed to go on for so long had to do with the fact that they climaxed an episode with Tom's foot getting caught in the rails of a train. I don't so much mind that as I did the fact that it felt like they glossed over how the Master came to look the way he does. At any rate, this is a story that dropped a whole load of mythology about the Doctor and Time Lord society in our laps, and I always appreciate that.
4/5 from me as well.

My all-time favourite. An absolutely fantastic story carried by the brilliance of Tom Baker, he really does shine in this one.
