Re: Music Library
Today I'm thankful for very few things as I've been ill most of the week and still feel like crap. Still nothing restores the spirits better than a collaboration between Sweden and Wales:

Re: Music Library
Once again, I was tempted to post the Manics this week, especially in light of tragic Richie finally being declared officially deceased. An event that I find incredibly upsetting, despite my belief that, after so long, there's little or no chance of him not having thrown himself into the River Severn fourteen years ago.
Still, continuing my seemingly neverending obsession with Gallic pop, howsabout some

You have no idea how much I loathe that record.
Patrick wrote:Yes, I know, I'm breaking the rules by posting more than one song in a day. So sue me.
David Tennant has a certain Rockabilly look to him- the cut of the suit, the hair... it's slightly 1950's retro. When I think of Rockabilly, no one does it better than Brian Setzer. So I give you one of my Setzer favorites, recorded live in Tokyo in 2001:
Brian Setzer Orchestra - Stray Cat Strut/Theme from the Pink Panther
That's better. The BSO are immense. The Dirty Boogie album is the one record that I can guarantee will alwys cheer me up, whatever the circumstances. Have you seen the Live In Japan DVD?
I was supposed to see the Stray Cats earlier this year; wanted to see them for twenty-five years, and had tickets for the Manchester gig of the farewell tour. So what happened? Slim Jim Phantom fell off the stage in Brixton the night before and broke his damn wrist. Tour cancelled, not to be rescheduled. Bastards.

I haven't seen the Live in Japan DVD myself, but a YouTube search seems to include an awful lot of it. Sorry to hear of your cancelled Stray Cats concert- that would be a big treat to see them live. I hope they reschedule sooner rather than later.

From what I hear, they're not coming back at all. Not happy about that.

Last post for my French Pop week, and I've decided to go for
Mellow- Another Mellow Winter
Which also has a brilliant video, where all the disparate elements introduced in the first half are woven together to form an narrative for the second.
Enjoy, and I'm already thinking of a new theme for next week...

That reads like the track listing to Now That's What I Call An Eclectic Taste In Music, but it's interesting to notice who's not made it to the playlist yet. So, in a killing two birds with one stone moment, here's The Boss covering a Woody Guthrie song:

Re: Music Library
It's taken me two hours to catch up this morning. Ossie's dream was a bit of a shock - it went round and round in my head when I was finishing my GCSE final exams but it's the first time I've come across it since. Every morning I would trying to think of any other song to set up in there, but no such luck. Bloody Spurs. I went to see Chas and Dave a few months ago (where I went up to Chas Hodges and claimed to be a funk organist... ) but they didn't play it.

It's nearly 30 years since I saw John Cooper Clarke and Richard Hell & the Voidoids support Elvis Costello and the Attractions at The Hammersmith Palais. Just looked it up: 30th January 1979. Man, where have those decades gone?

I quite enjoyed the clip linked to by the John Cooper Clarke song of Christopher Eccleston reciting a ruder version!

A fine, fine, choice sir. I think Kylie has only ever sounded sexier the once*. Love that song, and that album.

Bonzo Dog Band - Hunting Tigers Out In INDIAH
I was going to put more Bowie on - I thought we'd've had a third of his back catalogue by now - but here's something that I should have put on days ago. My mum always likes to point out that her autistic pupils adore The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
