- Tenpole Tudor. Unashamedly miming.
Shall we show this to the crowd at the DWF who still think Ed Tudor-Pole would make a good Doctor, kids? Shall we?

Um...I AM the crowd at DWF who thinks Ed would make a good Doctor. Maybe not now, he's a tad too creaky these days, but...I've met the guy and he IS an alien. He's more like the Doctor in reality than anyone else I've ever encountered. Tenpole Tudor were an incredible band, too. Got both their albums stored on me phone!

Because of the time, I haven't been able to check the quality of the video. Apologise if anyone chooses to see it and it offends your eyes and ears. I probably won't have time to update the list til tomorrow night... (If anyone's got a minute... ah, what am I saying? What else would you do on a wednesday?)

Aztec Camera and Mick Jones - Good Morning Britain
And if we're talking 'next Doctor', has the line 'don't be too black, don't be too gay, just get a little duller' been taken as a manifesto by certain people?

Re: Music Library
Ever since I saw The Great Rock N Roll Swindle I've always called TenPole Tudor "Tadpole". God bless Irene Handl.
Is it too early for a Christmas song? Of course not, it's advent but let's wear shiny shiny rather than gloomy purple. So I give you XTC, in another guise, The Three Wise Men - Thanks For Christmas.
It should have been a number one pop pickers.

Re: Music Library
Have to post this just for the completely out of contextedness (is that a word?) of it.
Live on David Letterman, it's...
The Jesus And Mary Chain- Far Gone and Out
It's only a shame that the brothers Reid didn't choose this night to have one of their customary arguments! Oh, and dig the groovy base player- presumably their regular bassist couldn't get a visa that month!!

Re: Music Library
I've been trying to avoid adding any more Dylan, but I think I can get away with the only cover version of one of his songs that I actually prefer to the original:
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
It also happens to be on the soundtrack of one of my favourite movies - so that's nice, isn't it?

This demands some sort of response, I feel.
Oh. Wait. Here comes one now.
God Save The Queen
- The Sex Pistols.
And, to be a bit more interesting, God weighs in with a cover version. Stanmore, I know this is a twofer, so put the Pistols version on the list and I'll try and find something more representative of Uncle Lemmy.
Second verse, same as the first, but by Motorhead.
Re: Music Library
I saw Jarvis Cocker last night. He's quite a performer, really. I realised during the encore that I hadn't looked at any other member of the band for the entire night. This is the one that stood out from the performance....

Jarvis is indeed awesome. 10/10. From 1994 and, IMO, at his supreme, indeed imperious, best here are Pulp - Do You Remember The First Time.

Re: Music Library
Ah, I once danced with Jarvis at a Pulp after show party. Of course, I have no memories of this whatsoever, as I was very, very drunk at the time. But according to the people I went with, this actually happened.
Pulp, at their best, were unbeatable, and I saw them regularly from 93 ish to around 98 ish. But, for all that, at their 93 Christmas gig at the Highbury and Islington Garage, they were blown out of the water by their support act, My Life Story. A 12 piece complete with string and brass sections, they specialised in Anthony Newley influenced pop, but never seemed to meet with success. I think this was mostly down to them never being able to recreate their live sound successfully. They disbanded at the end of the 90's, and, while not their best song, the following is a good representative of their work. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I give you...

Re: Music Library
I only saw Pulp live twice. IMO by '98 they were past their sell by date, but mid 90's were simply the best British band around.

Re: Music Library
Pulp's peak was the OU/Razzmatazz/Babies trilogy of EPs, I reckon. Anything before those or after His 'N' Hers I can live without. Love My Life Story, too...

Thank you for this one! That's brilliant - I'm loving "You Can't Uneat the Apple" too. I will keep an eye on their Amazon prices! A great set of songs all round today in fact.

Re: Music Library
That's interesting, because I interviewed Pulp before a gig in Cardiff in 1992 (according to Jarvis, 'punk paved the way for Thatcherism'), though I went to see the Manic Street Preachers that night instead. I wonder if it was the same night, and if it was, then it means that both Saah Cracknell and Miki Berenyi out of Lush (I saw her watching the Manics gig) were in the same building on the same night, which is the sort of combination of hot indie women that can cause all sort of problems.barnaby salton wrote:i saw pulp supporting saint etienne in cardiff 1992- i had a temperature of 103 and drank most of a bottle of brandy...a good evening
Thus, the only appropriate song left for me to post today is this:
Lush with Jarvis Cocker - Ciao!
