Re: Music Library
Nick Barlow wrote:That's interesting, because I interviewed Pulp before a gig in Cardiff in 1992 (according to Jarvis, 'punk paved the way for Thatcherism'), though I went to see the Manic Street Preachers that night instead. I wonder if it was the same night, and if it was, then it means that both Saah Cracknell and Miki Berenyi out of Lush (I saw her watching the Manics gig) were in the same building on the same night, which is the sort of combination of hot indie women that can cause all sort of problems.barnaby salton wrote:i saw pulp supporting saint etienne in cardiff 1992- i had a temperature of 103 and drank most of a bottle of brandy...a good evening
Thus, the only appropriate song left for me to post today is this:
Lush with Jarvis Cocker - Ciao!
it was at the university...my memories are understandably hazy
coincidentally i interviewed the manics roundabout this time for a student paper. i remember richie saying that when they went on tour to japan he took loads of pot noodles with him.

I used it for a running gag in Cinderella! And today's offering from a soggy C=O Towers is Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water.

Re: Music Library
Time for more Zappa, as requested earlier in the thread, especially as he was just namechecked in Smoke On The Water. So, from Joe's Garage, here's something not safe for work:
Frank Zappa - Catholic Girls

Re: Music Library
The Human League, in all its incarnations, are definitely one of my favourite artists of all time. And they're probably the only musicians ever to be influenced by Malcolm Clarke's Sea Devils soundtrack (well, they're definitely on record as saying they were influenced by the Dr Who theme, and they did have a b-side called Tom Baker!-).
So, in tribute, here's some early, and very, very brutal, electonica...
The Human League- Being Boiled
I'll post some slightly more popular Human League stuff (ie- after the girls had joined) later.

Re: Music Library
Here's a selection that I know at least one other person here will approve of (right, Sheringham?)
Sting - Bring On The Night/When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best of What's Still Around
The version from the 1986 "Bring On the Night -Live" Album is still my favorite. This one is apparently from The Soul Cages tour.

Great song. Chalk and cheese, my selection for today is Time Zone - World Destruction.
So I'm the third!

Absolutely sublime.

If there's anything that screams "long hair and poncey guitar solos" more blatantly, I'd like to see it...

Not today's Library entry from me, just worth a look.
This, on the other hand, is: Feel Good, Inc.
- Gorillaz, live. Possibly the most ambitious thing ever.
Re: Music Library
Today it's the bass player for yesterday's entry. If you see what I mean. Post-Stairs, it's...

Not sure what's better - the song, or the video .
As it's Friday, and I'm in a silly mood, a bit of a pastiche today - and don't worry, stanmore, it's not Weird Al .
The Rutles - Cheese and Onion

No, it's not a problem, I put Edgar 'Jones' Jones up anyway. I'll use the Prefab Four at some nebulous later date...

The Cure - Fascination Street
My fourth favourite group - and I've been loyal to them for over 25 years! This is my favourite track of theirs - well, the long version is my favourite but sadly I couldn't find that on the tube of you. Disintegration came out just before my finals and I just listened it to death - but I still love it.

Re: Music Library
Todays selection features a song so strange that even Primal Scream dueting with Kate Moss couldn't come close to matching. There's something deeply disturbing about this, which, of course, makes it all the better:
