Anyone read the first issue of Claremont's new X-timeline? I liked the art. The story? Well, it proves you don't need a TARDIS to travel back to the 90s.
Hee, I'm looking forward to hearing all your thoughts about that.

I liked IDW Autopia. It is very Who-ish, but too short!
I really like Kelly Yates' artwork.

Have the 90s now officially become nostalgia?
Whatever became of my regard for Claremont's X-Men work?
Bring back Don McGregor and Gene Colan on Nathaniel Dusk and Ragamuffins, I say.
Now that's nostalgia.

I read the second issue today. The plot's...rather similar to the first actually. The art's still good though.Sid Seadevil wrote:Oh God...

I suppose I'll have to check it out - for the art if nothing else.Zoltar wrote:I read the second issue today. The plot's...rather similar to the first actually. The art's still good though.
Is it just me - or are there too many things X in the Marvel universe for me to work up any real enthusiasm these days?

There are many, yes. I definitely think they need to cut down on the X-groups a bit. Drop a book, maybe trim the line-ups of the various teams.Sid Seadevil wrote:I suppose I'll have to check it out - for the art if nothing else.

Re: The Comic Thread
That would make sense to me. It would also make practical business sense for the company itself in the long run too, I'd imagine.Zoltar wrote:There are many, yes. I definitely think they need to cut down on the X-groups a bit. Drop a book, maybe trim the line-ups of the various teams.
Surely such a complex and convoluted series of interconnected titles ultimately runs the risk of putting off potential new readers from jumping on board. Although having said that, I've been out of the comic loop for a long, long time; is the industry surviving in the main on an ageing readership - or is there a healthy influx of new blood to carry it through comfortably?

Re: The Comic Thread
The trouble is they see X as a brand or franchise, and feel X-books (or Wolverine, or Wolverine-related like Deadpool) will attract more sales than a new title. That having been said, they are testing a lot of new titles with the "Dark Reign" event.Sid Seadevil wrote:That would make sense to me. I've heard many times that people find it too convoluted to follow, yep.Sid Seadevil wrote:Surely such a complex and convoluted series of interconnected titles ultimately runs the risk of putting off potential new readers from jumping on board.
Depends on who you ask. The folks I see at my local shop are all around my age. Something like X-Men Forever is certainly more for existing fans than any young readers. I'd certainly hope there's new readers coming into the fold.Sid Seadevil wrote:Although having said that, I've been out of the comic loop for a long, long time; is the industry surviving in the main on an ageing readership - or is there a healthy influx of new blood to carry it through comfortably?

Which pretty much tally's with what I see when I pop in occasionally to my local FP. Plenty of older buyers - many of them with children. But the kids appear to be more interested in the action/figures/merchandise than the comics themselves. Which I find a rather worrying sign.Zoltar wrote:Depends on who you ask. I'm not always a fan of the big "event" crossovers but I've enjoyed this one so far.Sid Seadevil wrote:I see. Hmmm...I'll keep me eyes peeled for the "Dark Reign" event. Thank for the tip.
Licensing for figures/merch certainly does nab the comic companies a lot of cash though. The Big Two both have lines for younger readers (Marvel Adventures and Johnny DC) that tend feature self-contained stories rather than lengthy multi-episode plotlines. Of the two, I've only read a few of the Marvel Adventures issues. They are fun, I hope they're reaching their target audience.Sid Seadevil wrote:Which pretty much tally's with what I see when I pop in occasionally to my local FP. I was a regular at my local comics store when I was a kid, but nowadays I can't afford them so I just read synopses online.

Did I read recently that you're a Kyle Rayner fan, Lucy? My favorite GL has always been Kilowog.

I shall forgive you for that. Tony Ingram claimed that the One True Lantern was Guy Gardner and I managed not to murder himZoltar wrote:Did I read recently that you're a Kyle Rayner fan, Lucy? My favorite GL has always been Kilowog.
I also have a soft spot for poor old John Stewart.

Oh, I like several of them. Jordan, Arisia, Katma Tui, John Stewart and Kyle. Kilowog just happens to be my fave. And I've grown to like Guy as well, I think he's mellowed a bit. Maybe Batman knocking him on his butt did some good.Lucy McGough wrote:I shall forgive you for that. Tony Ingram claimed that the One True Lantern was Guy Gardner and I managed not to murder him

Re: The Comic Thread
May I say...
Agents of Atlas is made of awesome!
Oh and I have a new man of my life (#875241000148756²): Green Arrow.
I adored the art of both of these comics.
Just a question though: how many the heck are there Gorilla/Men is this bloody Comic World?

Yep, Green Arrow rocks. Particularly when teamed with Hal Jordan. My sister's a fan too, even has a little statue of him.Bonsai.Talker wrote:Oh and I have a new man of my life (#875241000148756²): Green Arrow.

I dunno, it's not been confirmed whether those issues will now be reprinted. Though I think Marvel would be silly to acquire MM and not reprint them.barnaby salton wrote:great- should i sell my moore/totleben issues now?

Indeed, some intense visuals there. But they still have the Marvel "Max" line for adult stuff, I suppose they could use that if they were worried it was too much.barnaby salton wrote:i'm sure they will some of moore's best work. although #15 must be one of the most violent comics i've ever read

Moore won't write it, so I have no doubt they will shoe-horn it all into Marvel continuity somehow. On the other hand, this could mean reprints and since I no longer have any of my Miracle/Marvelman stuff, I might get a shot at owning it again.
I wonder if Gaiman might be persuaded to pen a run?
