Re: current tv heaven
That's a shame if it indeed proves to be the case. But I gotta' agree with you, better a modicum of quality rather than a skip full of quantity.Lee Carey wrote:Hmm, Canal plus, the channel responsible, has taken down the page on its website, so I have a feeling the chances of a second series may be like the second series of State of Play- a possibility that may never come into being as too many of the artists involved have moved on to other things. Which in some ways, I don't mind, as I would prefer a short run of perfection than something that outstays its welcome.

This is the first time I've been able to see this properly...broadband has definitely made a difference.
They should have given Tony the Cyberman a regular spot.

Heroes and Have I Got News For You. I have a criminally small amount of channels on my perpetually-failing Digibox, so that's all I have to go on until Christmas.

On 'home-made'* DVD - just finished watching the second seasons of Mad Men and Carnivale,
Oh, eff me. The second season of Carnivale. Bloody hell, what a series. I'm about two episodes from the end and I'm going to miss it. So finely crafted, acted and directed and the whole storyline has been so compulsive. Why this got cancelled, I shall never know. I've completed my viewing of Mad Men. Series 2. It's not quite as good as the first series but there are some belting episodes. Waiting for BBCHD to get their fingers out and show it so I can see it in HD goodness.

Somehow fate has conspired to make me miss all of Med Men. A situation I fully intend to set right just as soon as I've cleared a little of my already mammoth TV backlog.Frank wrote:Oh, eff me. First series is currently being re-run on BBC4.
Review of last week's 'Life On Mars US' is ooop on t'blog. It's struggling to get there, I have to say. Better than the previous episode but not quite right yet.
I'm also trying to summon up the energy to review the last SJA story which I really didn't enjoy. That's two duds in a row. God, I'm turning into Craig Revel-Horwood...
Re: current tv heaven
I actually totally forgot that SJA was on last night. A first for me - I blame the Russ Abbott effect.Frank wrote:First series is currently being re-run on BBC4.

It's absolutely wonderful! We have some of the books and they're hysterical too.
Re: current tv heaven
Sadly, one of these shows ain't gonna make it. But at least we have assurances from the creator that he will try to continue Pushing Daisies as comic books or a movie...or both. And he may return to Heroes, which I suppose is a nice silver lining on that otherwise dark cloud.Zoltar wrote:A few of the top of my head...

I'm annoyed that Eli Stone is going the way of Pushing Daisies, I'm less annoyed about ES, but I am severely angry about PD as it is a fantastic ensemble piece which is far and any above a lot of modern tv.

Re: current tv heaven
Couldn't agree more. In fact, it was probably too good a show to make it on network TV, which seems to prefer the likes of Knight Rider or Reality TV garbage.millerqueen wrote:I'm annoyed that Eli Stone is going the way of Pushing Daisies, I'm less annoyed about ES, but I am severely angry about PD as it is a fantastic ensemble piece which is far and any above a lot of modern tv.

Re: current tv heaven
Sadly it's often been the way on the US networks that the more imaginative, envelope-pushing shows fall by the wayside while the suits champion the lesser efforts.Zoltar wrote:Couldn't agree more. Re: current tv heaven
Branagh and David Warner were great, and the atmosphere was very good, but it doesn't yet have the same special 'something' to make it unmissable like Morse, or Frost at his best.

I'm really enjoying this latest series of Have I got News for You. I think it's the best series we've had in a very long time.

I agree 100%. Tom Baker was - and I intend no hyperbole here - simply perfect as a presenter. Hislop and Merton continue to perform at the top of their game, and I loved it last week when they made fun of Germaine Greer. (There's just something about her that gets up my nose.)
Re: current tv heaven
I agree. Tom was hosting perfection. I hope they get him again.
