I'd be happy if they did an entire series with just him, BRIAN BLESSED! and Anne Widdecombe presenting.
Then I would think that I had died and gone to a heaven where everything was arranged to satisfy my slightest whim.
Re: current tv heaven
I don't think Anne Widdecombe will come back. They bullied her too much last time.

She's said publicly that she's not returning, which is why my scenario will have to remain in the realms of fantasy.

The 39 Steps was one of Christmas televisual delights.
Bugger the critics - I absolutely enjoyed it.*
*But not as much as the utterly fantastical stage production Kate and I saw during our trip to the Smoke last year. That was quite simply the bee's knees*

The Diary of Anne Frank, wonderfully made, terribly depressing but utterly, utterly vital we remember why it should never, ever happen again

Agreed on all counts. If it doesn't feature high on the BAFTA list they'll have some serious explaining to do.millerqueen wrote:The Diary of Anne Frank, wonderfully made, terribly depressing but utterly, utterly vital we remember why it should never, ever happen again

oh, i very nearly cried. which is a bloody good sign of how troubling it is. I'm now watching the documentary which may well change things. You must remember I am a hard bitch, but it is a shameful time for the aggressors, and a lesson for all of us, we are all different, and no amount of difference is enough to hate or fear

Couldn't agree more. I was very heartened to find out the the Beeb is sending both the DVD of the series and an information pack on the subject matter to, I think - and Kate will correct me if I'm mistaken, to every school in the country.millerqueen wrote:oh, i very nearly cried. which is a bloody good sign of how troubling it is. wonderful, we should never ever forget what she went through, and importantly now, why no one should go through what she did. the lessons should never be forgotten.

Most definitely. Actually, I think we should move this discussion over to the shows very own thread...Anne Frank Threadmillerqueen wrote:wonderful, we should never ever forget what she went through, and importantly now, why no one should go through what she did. the lessons should never be forgotten.
That frees up this thread for more general use.

Fringe starts up again tonight, Lost tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing what develops on both.

Oh dear. That must be the English translation of "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" hosted by a well known American comedian famous for his commentaries celebrating the redneck way of life. Jeff Foxworthy, I think.
I'm with Zoltar. Fringe and Lost are the only things worth watching at the moment, although since I don't actually have a TV I am relying on Hulu for Fringe. I am also catching up on the Eddie Izzard/Minnie Driver thing "The Riches" which is also good.
And I have been grabbing the odd "Timewatch", last seen was "Britain's Forgotten Floods" in which an Essex historian says "In those days the end of the world wasn't due to an asteroid impact or Doctor Who making a mistake...", which was a beautifully surreal moment.

I've been meaning to sample that series myself. I'll have to check a few episodes out.

Re: current tv heaven
Oh, crumbs. Life On Mars has just been cancelled by ABC. Five more episodes to go but they are apparently going to wind it up with a proper finale and show the remaining episodes. Pity, it was really finding its feet and I was rather enjoying it.
Still, at least we have eight more Being Human episodes for 2010.

Re: current tv heaven
US TV. I'm glad Losty has a set end date, it should mean it's safe for the last year.

That's really too bad. I've been highly enjoying Life on Mars, particularly as the production gained confidence, the story-lines began to diverge away from the UK-version. I was really liking how this show was beginning to set itself apart.
