45 minutes of set up. Miles better than 42, mind, and next week's looks very good. 3/5

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
Problems.
1. They're not Silurians, indeed they're not even Eocenes.
2. The 12 minuite bollocks would have taken hours.
Apart from that I really enjoyed it. Meera Syal was superb. And there's an awful lot to come next week.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
Very good, far better balanced than the rather slow first half of the previous two parter.
Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
I'm going to want to watch that again. But, first impressions: Inferno meets Frontios, with a dallop of Green Death thrown in for good measure. There's a lot of Pertwee about this story.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
I need to rewatch without added family - thought it was a bit slow.
I'll not rate it till I've seen both episodes and watched the confidential (again without added family)
I also really like Meera Syal, one of my favourite actors she was excellent in this.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
A 3 from me. It was enjoyable but I do think it was just 45 minutes of setup. It does seem to be made up of cherry picked parts of the Pertwee era with added Frontios. Next week looks fantastic though. Although so far this series I'm finding that the most anticipated episodes are the ones that are letting me down.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
Nah, 42 was better paced. And more interesting. However, I may change my mind on seeing the second half.
Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
42 is the only episode of the RTD era that I haven't been able to get through twice.

I enjoyed it, it was a bit of fun.
Just interested in your second point, what have you based that on? I got the impression their tunnels were already there so essentially all they needed to do was move up kinda like on a lift.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
I meant that there's no way The Doctor & co would have got everything set up in 12 minutes. 12 hours more like!

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
I dunno, a future wi-fi network and a bunch of cameras lying around, 12 minutes is stretching it, but not impossible. I presumed the same mechanisation that lead to there needing only a skeleton crew to man the drill would mean there would be a variety of web cams and the like lying around.
As with Mrs Lee, I found this fun and enjoyable and thought it very reminiscent of the original Silurian story and the Impossible Planet. I liked the new make-up, and especially liked the interrogation and the Doctor putting a dyslexic child at ease: "I can't make a Lemon Meringue" indeed.

Seriously you're stealing my thunder and the Doctor said he couldn't make a decent meringue so nerr...
I'll have to re watch to see about the setting up, from what I remember they only placed a few camera's the rest were already there so essentially it was a bit of hacking so they had access to cameras that weren't theirs. Which is possible in the 12 minute frame, a good hacker could do it in a couple of minutes.

Re: Rate "The Hungry Earth"
When the 12 mniutes started they were in the drill room (or whatever it was called) and had to pack up & move off!

I really enjoyed it.
In fact it's my favourite episode so far!
Quite agree that it felt like a Pertwee episode.
Looking forward to part two.

I loved it too. Not my favourite episode so far, but that's because the bar is set so very, very high by The Eleventh Hour. Joint favourite, maybe.
But yes, it's fantastic and I like everything about it
