What is your favourite story from Series 5?

13 episodes, 10 stories. Now the series is over, on reflection which did you enjoy the most?

For me, it's the Lodger. 45 minutes of exactly what Doctor Who is

Unless something changes when I watch the rest of the finale, Vincent and the Doctor. Only standout episode of a series full of good episodes.

for me the 11th hour- totally accepted matt smith and liked all the stuff with young amy and the crack in the wall.

i could have voted for "vincent" or "the lodger" though

The Lodger - for me, the only episode where the supporting characters felt like real people, not plot devices who'd die or disappear when they've served their purpose.

Vincent and the Doctor.

Indeed, it is one of my favourites from all five series. Mind you, I have quite a few favourites...

Amy's Choice for me. A series of lovely ideas, deftly played.

'The Eleventh Hour'. Just magical.

Mind you, the whole series was pretty damn good.

Slim pickings for me - I went for The Eleventh Hour which, along with Vincent, The Lodger, Amy's Choice and The Pandorica Opens, are the only episodes anywhere near the quality of the previous series. And Amy's Choice was massively flawed, and TPO had an undeserving part two.

I agree with Rich's list, too, although I think I have to add the Weeping Angels two-parter and Vampires of Venice. But 11th Hour gets the nod.

For me the season was topped & tailed by its best stories. The finale just beats Eleventh Hour because of the insanity of The Pandorica Opens & the beauty of The Big Bang. Overall I think I enjoyed it more than many here, although there was both naffness and indifference thrown in to the mix.

And hats off to Matt Smith. Already one of the greatest Doctors ever.

I agree with this too.

Matt Smith is fabulous, but I really hate this 'Smith is better than Tennant' comparison malarkey. Different actors, different showrunner/headwriter practically impossible to compare the two.

If it's possible to compare series, then sure it's possible to compare portrayals of the Doctor?

I don't think it's possible to compare series either.

What it comes down to is personal preference which is not quantifiable.

Which of course is merely my own opinion.

So between three for me, but I'm just going to edge for The Eleventh Hour. I wasn't sure about this series before it started what with all the changes and not being familiar with the new leads, but that story got me by "Apples!", and had me adoring it by "That must be one hell of a scary crack in your wall". It was quite a turn-around in ten minutes, to the extent that I disliked the theme music first time I heard it but found it fine the second. Superb!

Vincent and the Doctor, and The Big Bang, without any doubt.. The Big Bang was the best final episode of all the series since it returned in 2005, and Vincent and the Doctor is for me THE very best episode ever made, yes seriously, even better than Blink..

Amy's Choice though Vincent and The Doctor is up there along with The Lodger.

The Big Bang was very easily the worst final episode since the series began!
All timey-wimey, no substance, no character and no emotion. Nothing particularly mattered.

So, further to this topic of an overall impression of Series 5, I received an email from Amazon.com today- ordered my S5 Box Set from Amazon, and got a great discount from the pre-order and free shipping- and they have asked if I would like to consider adding my comments on it to their website.

Well, if I'm going to do this, I think there should be Wrinkly input informing my comments. What would you think would be appropriate feedback for potential buyers of this box set to consider?

Paying me to do their reviews for them?

Or failing that, simply point out all the benefits of owning Series Five as it was intended to be viewed: No on screen dogs, no ad breaks, crystal clear clarity and an abundance of informative and interesting extras.

That should about cover it, methinks.
