Re: Who'll Be Watching The Watchmen?
Tales From The Black Freighter trailer is now up on my blog.
Very excited as I've just bought my tickets for the IMAX screening of Watchmen in Manchester. Woo hoo!

I'm definitely ramping up my anticipation levels as the release date draws near. Definitely a trip to the cinema on the cards for this release.

Same here. Few films draw me out to the theater these days, but I'll make the time for Watchmen.Sid Seadevil wrote:I'm definitely ramping up my anticipation levels as the release date draws near. Definitely a trip to the cinema on the cards for this release.

Re: Who'll Be Watching The Watchmen?
Absolutely. And it's not just because I'm a long time fan of the graphic novel either. This is a film I'd genuinely want to see even if I was unaware of its origins.
I think the handling of the film's marketing has been superbly executed.

I'm still not convinced that it will be any good. What else has the director done?

He ain't got a long CV - but he does posses visual flair and he appears to be totally committed to sticking as true to the source material on this project as possible.Rich Flair wrote:I'm still not convinced that it will be any good. What else has the director done?
Here's his credits:
# Dawn of the Dead (2004) – Director
# 300 (2007) – Writer, director

It could have been worse. It could have been "I'm Frank Goddamned Miller!" himself directing.Rich Flair wrote:300? Oh dear!

Re: Who'll Be Watching The Watchmen?
And if what I'm hearing is correct, the film has received an classification by the BBFC. So the studio can wave a tearful bye, bye to massive kiddie generated revenue.
Which can only be a good thing for us.

A "Mr Q. continues to leave out key words and/or numbers" classification.

Oh, well that narrows it down then!

*DOH!* An 18 classification. Sorry folks, eyesight slip.Frank wrote:Sid Seadevil wrote:the film has received an classification by the BBFC.

I think reception of the nerd dollar will quite comfortably balance any loss of merchandising revenue from the kiddie end of the market.

Thanks, Sid. Ah, good. That means the violence isn't toned down and the kiddywinks can't get in and see it. Good luck to them because 18 certs are very rarely box office blockbusters and they've not cut it to get the cert down and make more dosh. Do we think that indicates a certain confidence in the product?
Re: Who'll Be Watching The Watchmen?
Yes. Yes, I think the news does indicate a certain confidence in the finished product. Which can only be of the best possible news to us.Frank wrote:Thanks, Sid. Ah, good. And speaking of further news...
Latest reports are that the theatrical release has a running time of 156 minutes. The forthcoming DVD/Blue Ray Director's Cut, will run to about for 190 mins; while a third cut for DVD/Blue Ray will also include the "Tales Of The Black Freighter", animated feature and will weigh in at a running time of a hefty 205 minutes.

Yep, the DVD release news certainly seems to chime with that view.Doc Filth wrote:I think reception of the nerd dollar will quite comfortably balance any loss of merchandising revenue from the kiddie end of the market.

I was hoping for a Blu Ray bells and whistles cut. 205 minutes! Jesus tonight.

Quite. And once you factor the extras and whatnot in - that's probably the most comprehensive package since the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition boxsets.Frank wrote:I was hoping for a Blu Ray bells and whistles cut. 205 minutes! Jesus tonight.

Re: Who'll Be Watching The Watchmen?
Heads up!
This month's Sci-Fi Now comes with a promotional Watchmen DVD. It has all the trailers on it, a brief Zack Snyder interview, all of the first ten video journals from the official website and a gallery.
Mmm, real good treat!

Yes. I think it's safe to say that would fall in the "worse" category.Sid Seadevil wrote:It could have been worse. It could have been "I'm Frank Goddamned Miller!" himself directing.Rich Flair wrote:300? Oh dear!
