How Was "Day of the Moon"?
Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
Zoltar wrote:He looked uneasy and nervous to me, just not to a comic degree. Showing him with visible sweat would be silly.
Yes, not to the 'comic degree' of unease that he exhibited in real life. Likewise for the sweating, but to be fair he did sweat more profusely under TV lights.

Having been somewhat disappointed with The Impossible Astronaut, I thought Day of the Moon was absolutely tremendous. It took us on a rollercoatser ride here, there and everywhere, resolving some plot points but creating more. And what a tremedous ending. 5/5 for me.

Doctor Who wasn't going for real life when he chatted about The Silence with his agent, codename: The Doctor. It was a lighthearted portrayal of Nixon and it's not the first time that's been done.Rich Flair wrote:Yes, not to the 'comic degree' of unease that he exhibited in real life.
Sure, but to add that to the show would be a bit much.Rich Flair wrote:Likewise for the sweating, but to be fair he did sweat more profusely under TV lights.

You're not basing this on the one TV debate with Kennedy, are you?
Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
That's not remotely his best showing, to be certain.Dave Webb wrote:You're not basing this on the one TV debate with Kennedy, are you?

Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
Although proof of image over content: those who listened to the Kennedy/Nixon debate on the radio thought that Nixon came out the better. It was the tv viewers who thought more of Kennedy.Zoltar wrote:That's not remotely his best showing, to be certain.Dave Webb wrote:You're not basing this on the one TV debate with Kennedy, are you?
I thought the visual of Nixon far superior to last years Watchmen film (and I liked that film) and had no problems with his portrayal-- in fact I liked the way the Doctor and the Silents were held at least partly responsible for the paranoi that eventually brought him down. And always remember, Nixon was ahead in the polls, and seen as a relatively popular President (well, as much as Presidents can be popular!-). The Watergate affair and the whole plan to undermine his Democratic oppostion were totally unnecessary and Nixon was very much responsible for his own downfall because of it.
(Sources: Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail, All the Presidents Men (book and film) and Oliver Stone's Nixon, as well as conversations with various Republican supporters back in the 90's:-)

4/5 providing this isn't the start of David Lynch''s stint on Doctor Who. Weird can be good, but not every week.

No, I'm basing this on the Nixon's autobiography, and 'I Gave Them a Sword' by David Frost, amongst other books.

Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
No danger of that. Next Week's Curse of the Black Spot looks like it is going to be a very traditional Doctor Who romp. From what I can see, if you replace the word "Base" with the word "Ship" in the infamous cliché and you more or less sum that story up.Johnstone McGuckian wrote:4/5 providing this isn't the start of David Lynch''s stint on Doctor Who. All your ship are belong to us?
...could be. Could be a comment about the online world of fic and fandom.
I'm in ur ship killin ur doodz?
...ah, now we're getting somewhere. That sounds like an infamous cliche a Who monster could really get behind.
Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
As others have noted, Renfrew seems like a riff on Renfield. I liked the fact that he repeatedly tried to leave himself messages to get the hell out of there and it still wasn't enough to make him disobey, pretty creepy.Rich Flair wrote:So who's that Renfrew chap? Re: Rate "Day of the Moon"
Indeed. In many ways he was the most tragically human and sympathetic character in the entire story. The ultimate underlining of the threat that the Silence was to humanity.Zoltar wrote:As others have noted, Renfrew seems like a riff on Renfield.
