Doc Filth afraid of proper women.

I hope not. I was curiously unmoved by River Song.

Re: The Next Companion?
Afraid so. Her comment basically boiled down to The Moff requesting if it was at all possible keeping a window in her diary starting in 2010, IIRC.Doc Filth wrote:She did?
Oh well. That'll be a "grin and bear it" moment, then.

I love River Song and I want her to be in as many episodes as the Beeb can afford.

Re: The Next Companion?
That's about my position too - I think Moffat got a bit OTT in telling us how wonderful she is, but forgot to show much of it. That aside, I really can't see her working as a regular companion, so I would assume any contact has been for guest roles, not as a regular.Sid Seadevil wrote:I heart Alex Kingston - butBernice SummerfieldRiver Song, while enjoyably played, really didn't ring any of my collection of bells.
Re: The Next Companion?
Oh you're absolutely right re her probably, almost certainly, being a guest star rather than a fully fledged companion, Nick. I think that particular point just got lost somewhere during the discussion.Nick Barlow wrote:That's about my position too - I think Moffat got a bit OTT in telling us how wonderful she is, but forgot to show much of it. Re: The Next Companion?
I liked River, although I think the production team would be missing a trick if they didn't cast several actresses as her at various ages, starting as teenager (primarily so the Doctor wouldn't initially recognise her, giving the episode a nice twist ending).
And no, that's not my perversions coming out, simply because I've read the Time Travellers Wife...
Well, I say read it. I read the first couple of chapters... and then, er, put it down and never picked it up again.

Gosh, that was like far too many of my previous relationships, Lucy (and I'm not just talking about its brevity!)

The world of DW fandom is small. Some say incestuous.
Re: The Next Companion?
I just had a brianwave. Why not bring back the character of Nancy, but not played by Florence Hoath. The story could be set nearly thirty years after The Empty Child/Doctor Dances. Have Ms. Hoath playing Nancy's daughter "Lucy", who is a nurse, and when off duty a 1960's dollybird in a very short skirt. Best of both worlds.Sid Seadevil wrote:SOAP!Doc Filth wrote:...or just engineeer a situation wherein she's forcibly removed from the 1940s and can't get back there; we know the kid is safe and being looked after by someone else, and Nancy gets a whole bucket of angst to carry around.
Sorted.
That would work nicely - under RTD. Not certain The Moff would to take that route though. But I would love to see Nancy return - even if it was only for another guest shot Perhaps set during the 50's when the character's older, allowing Florrie to play closer to her actual age.
(I so need a girlfriend. )

We might as well just call her Polly and have an instant continuity meltdown/tie-in.*The Browncoat Cat wrote:I just had a brianwave. Why not bring back the character of Nancy, but not played by Florence Hoath. Have her playing Nancy's daughter "Lucy", a 1960's dollybird.

Oh, she could go and make the coffee and scream a bit.

Re: The Next Companion?
I just had a brainwave/premonition/sign of imminent breakdown - I reckon the next companion is going to be played by Lucy Griffiths (Marian from Robin Hood).

I would certainly have no objection to that.
Not that my objections, justified or otherwise, have any effect on the outcome...but, yes. She was pretty good in Hood, I'd like to see what else she can do.
