George Takei on the Comedy Central Shatner Roast in 2006. Brillinat stuff with, IMO, a clearly heartfelt outline. (contains Strong language)

I'd heard about this. It's brilliant to see it. So, so, so rude! Love it!

Thanks Frank. That information provided a fascinating, if not more than a little disheartening, insight into the situation.Frank wrote:Oh, there's been a very antagonistic feud between the Shat and George. Couple of week's ago the Shat put up a rant about Takei on his blog, on video, and which of course then got out into the media....

They're both as bad as each other!
Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
Interesting....I've just been trawling the net and came across the fact that on the Playmates action figure packaging for the figures for this movie, the Nimoy Spock figure is listed as being "Prime" Spock.
Very intriguing...
Multiple universes anyone? A reboot of the franchise while maintaining the integrity of TOS...

- Spoiler:
- Apparently, something like this occurs in the film...as a result of the time travel plot

And playing it this way if things prove successful then they'll be happily having their cake and eating it.Frank wrote:Well, Paramount's got a whole new franchise to develop!

Have been reading the reports on the 20 minutes of material shown to the UK press last week. Two very enthusiastic reports from Den Of Geek and Total Film. I think we are in for a treat.

It certainly seems to be shaping up that way.Frank wrote:Have been reading the reports on the 20 minutes of material shown to the UK press last week. Two very enthusiastic reports from Den Of Geek and Total Film. I think we are in for a treat.

I trust JJ Abrams as director.
Watch "Mission Impossible 3" if you don't believe me. (Surprised me, too)

OK, people. I have just seen the new trailer. It looks amazing, despite viewing it as a bootleg. Really balls to the wall stuff. All i can say is if you want a taster *cough* blog*cough*. Enjoy!

That does look good - and Simon Pegg's accent sounds alright, too!Frank wrote:OK, people. I have just seen the new trailer. It looks amazing, despite viewing it as a bootleg. Really balls to the wall stuff. All i can say is if you want a taster *cough* blog*cough*. Enjoy!

That accent isn't bad, is it. Apparently his wife is Scottish and has been helping him out! Not enough of Karl Urban as Bones to really work out if the fulsome praise he's receiving is justified. But hurry up May 2009. I want to see this film now!

Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
It's interesting, this run up to the movie.
For one thing, there are three cast members with a heck of a legacy to live up to. Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner aside, I can't quite imagine anyone being able to match DeForest Kelly. That people are saying Karl Urban manages this makes me really excited to see how he does it. I am gleeful about Simon Pegg, and interested to see what they have done with Uhura, Sulu and Chekov.
I haven't been excited about Star Trek since I got hold of an early copy of the writer's bible for TNG, so this is a welcome feeling. I know there's some fan cynicism, there always is, but I'm really looking forward to this movie.

Agreed, not enough of Karl Urban as Bones. His McCoy is the thing I'm most interested in seeing, since Bones is the heart of the Big 3. Good stuff, though...very promising.

To be honest, the trailer was so quickly cut I'm not quite sure what to think of it, yet. I rather think that, like Casino Royale and Batman Begins it'll probably be best viewed as a reimagining than an actual prequel. (Though I keep hearing alternating answers as to which it's actually supposed to be.)

Incidentally, I noticed Winona Ryder's name in the credits. Who is she playing?

Yup.
And Ben Cross, whose voice is overheard in the young Spock bits of the trailer, is playing Sarek. Bruce Greenwood is playing Captain Pike!
Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
Of course, unlike Casino Royale and Batman Begins, this film is apparently using time travel as a means to create changes in the timeline. So, it could be seen as both a prequel and a reboot.whoisthedoctor wrote:To be honest, the trailer was so quickly cut I'm not quite sure what to think of it, yet. Well, that would explain the alternating explanations I keep hearing as to which it is.
I suppose it's a "halfway point" allowing them to change things without completely frenzying Trek's continuity-obsessed fanbase. (Not that I'm any less guilty of that.)
Actually the Godzilla series did the same thing in the early 90's and it worked out fairly well.
