Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
So, the more trailer I see the more I am prepared to believe in the leads. Including Simon Pegg, who has the role I would have wanted if I were an actor, or talented in any way. The lucky devil.
Kirk, Spock and McCoy do seem to be good fits - true to the spirit of the characters (and in Qunito's case, the look too).
The Emotional Spock arguments are nonsense - take a look at him in the original pilot where Spock isn't first officer, he does a fair bit of emoting and the original "Number One" is the icily emotionless person. So, cool beans as far as I am concerned.
But the real argument is the oldest of all: Star Trek vs Star Wars - don't these people watch Doctor Who?

I watch all three, which means I periodically have to go to war with myself over which me likes the wrong thing.Dave Webb wrote:But the real argument is the oldest of all: Star Trek vs Star Wars - don't these people watch Doctor Who?

How is it possible for four words to send such a shiver up my spine?

I was reading they've spoken about the issues of canon as per the new film in the ST thread at the DWF.
- Spoiler:
- Q: Why do some things appear different in the new Star Trek movie?
A: There is an alternative timeline created by Nero traveling back in time.
Q: Is everything different in the alternative timeline?
A: No, some things remain the same.
Q: Does this alternative timeline wipe out the original timeline (from TOS -Nemesis)?
A: No, quantum theory says they both co-exist.
Q: Does the original timeline continue?
A: Yes, again as explained by quantum theory.
Q: Does this quantum theory approach conform to ‘Trek science?’
A: Depends on the episode, but it is explicitly cited by Data in the episode “Parallels.”
So, basically, it's a comics style Multiverse approach.

Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
Another new trailer apparently shown during the Super Bowl last night. Just thirty seconds of fast-cutting action, but still looks fun.
(Cue outraged Trekkies: 'Fun? FUN?!?? There'll be no fun here!')

Yep. It's indeed short, sweet and very fun.Nick Barlow wrote:Another new trailer apparently shown during the Super Bowl last night. Just thirty seconds of fast-cutting action, but still looks fun.

Can't wait for the news reporting outbreaks of spontaneous combustion of deeply unconvincingly clad Klingon wannabes and po-faced Picard look-a-likes world wide.

Re: These Are The Voyages...Movie Trek
Interesting bits of back story there. BTW, what certificate are we expecting for Trek. 12A/PG13 ?

I can't imagine they'd ever make an R-rated Star Trek movie. And given some of the scenes from the trailer (particularly the one with Kirk bedding down a woman), I don't think it will be PG. Process of elimination, I'd agree: PG-13

Poor woman. I take it her that her death is particularly poignant? :p

Touche.
I guess we'll find out how the woman shuffles off her mortal coil May 8th.

Well, that was terrific. I really enjoyed that film. The leads are all great and it just blazes along. Big, epic, with heart and soul.

Frank,
I've only gone as far as the first couple of paragraphs of your review. I want to remain spoiler-free for this one, so I'll catch the full Frank review after I see it. But I loved your tag line: This is Star Trek with a firecracker up its ass.
