I think I shall wait for the DVD to be released, too. I rather enjoy growing my video library.

Re: Missing Episodes
I just can't believe, after 40-odd years sat in an archive, how good the restorers have got them to look! The picture is astonishing - they obviously know how to take care of their film in Nigeria!

So what do people think - shall we start new "rate" threads for the two stories?

Saw Web of Fear - 5/5. And I normally think Troughton's stories are a bit dull.

Re: Missing Episodes
I'd like to point out that the threads have been open for a while. We just "unstuck" them when we moved into the Pertwee years.

That's what they are "re-rate" as well as "rate". Fule.

Re: Missing Episodes
My opinion on the number of missing episodes recovered has, for a long while, been between 25-30. I am minded to revise this upwards quite substantially.

Re: Missing Episodes
Cool! Why did they only announce 9? Are they not announcing episodes until they have been restored? If Marco Polo has been found would it not make sense for it to be released for the 50th anniversary?
and another question: is it true that one of Phillip Morris's initial demands was that Moffat resigns?

Re: Missing Episodes
Lol at your last sentence Rich!
It appears that restoration of the stories from start to finish takes approximately 100 days. My belief, and that's all it is, is that work is currently ongoing on Marco Polo and The Massacre. Any announcement will be determined by the availability for release.
Clearly there are big financial negotiations between Morris and BBC Worldwide. These will doubtless be ongoing. My hope is that my 25-30 figure is a tranche that has been paid for and has been released or will be released 2013/2014.
Maybe the status of everything else will depend on revenue streams. Inevitably these will diminish as the double dipping, which I believe is quite large for Enemy and Web, reduces. In time more and more people may wait for the DVD, even though they're seemingly going to be vanilla, as the bitrate will be higher.
Ultimately though, would Morris not give them all back to the BBC? That would see him go from Hero to Zero faster than you can say "there will always be 110 missing episodes".

Re: Missing Episodes
Yeah, cheers Tony. So I assume we'll see them all when they're ready. Marco Polo 50th anniversary not until the end of Feb, so they can announce a DVD release before then.

Re: Missing Episodes
Why would the DVD releases be 'vanilla'? No documentaries because of rush release? I can't imagine that, with the quality of the features on the other DVDs, that these new ones will be sans extras.

Re: Missing Episodes
There's a 3 month gap between the DVD releases of Enemy and Web. Presumably to sell the DVD's and Blu-Ray's of The Day of the Doctor and Twelfth Night.
It would be a nice pre-Christmas present to hear something official about Marco Polo and The Massacre.

Vanilla releases lead to Revisitations later, so more double dipping!

Re: Missing Episodes
Because Dan Hall and Pup Limited are no longer involved. You'll note that the DVD Covers are different. It's being run by BBCW to maximise revenue, hence the BBC Shop advertising exclusive crap t-shirts. Bit like when Virgin Books got shafted.Rich Flair wrote:Why would the DVD releases be 'vanilla'? Fraser Hines and Debbie Watling were originally lined up to do a commentary on Enemy, but this was then dropped.

Well that's always possible, but only in the long term and aiming for people to triple dip.Rich Flair wrote:Vanilla releases lead to Revisitations later, so more double dipping!

No way! I thought Dan Hall had been quiet. Oh well, no extras mean I'll just keep the stolen itunes versions that I've acquired.

Re: Missing Episodes
It is very exciting isn't it! Lovely to hear such positivity just about all over the place, and the two recently mentioned stories are fantastic.
I'm still looking forward to finding out if Web of Fear 3 gets announced in time for the DVD release. And what the MBW episode is that's being shown on in early December.

I genuinely believe that Web 3 is gone. I'm hoping for something from Marco Polo at MBW.
