C=O, I'm pretty sure Konstantin made your Avatar.
Back to topic. Any chance that the missing episodes include The Moonbase? I have a personal connection to that story- I was born the day before episode 2 aired.

Re: Missing Episodes
A thousand apologies to Kostya then.
No I don't think The Moonbase episodes are amongst the recoveries - otherwise, why would they be animating them? However The Crusade is NOT being animated.

Re: Missing Episodes
Oh, that's good news - I don't mind a wait and a year or so is not that long, especially as I have a bit of a backlog of DW DVDs to watch. The wrote:Told that there will be DVD or BluRay release, but I very much doubt they'll be out until the second half of next year.
Meanwhile maybe on Enemy of the World will be released initially - issues surrounding Web of Fear and the missing episode.
I'd just like to say, in case it appeared otherwise, that I'm very pleased that people will be able to get the stories from itunes immediately. It's just that I don't feel I want to do so* and was disappointed at the thought there might not be DVDs** eventually.
* although if everyone raves about them I suppose I might change my mind!
** I note the 'DVD or BluRay' though!

Re: Missing Episodes
It's an afternoon event with time to make the evening news, yet it's embargoed until midnight? Curious.

Re: Missing Episodes
The finish allows the press to get their copy sorted and ready for midnight. I can't think that the embargo will hold though.
The news of the companions at the launch has leaked out. The BBC are pretty poor nowadays at managing these things.
From what I've been told episodes from Seasons 1, 3, 4 and 5 have been recovered. The guest list actually backs that up.

Re: Missing Episodes
Very exciting to hear Peter Purves is there - gives hope for The Massacre and the Myth Makers! So with that guest list, does that suggest they will be announcing more than Web of Fear/Enemy of the World?
Also, when we say midnight Thursday - sorry if this is a silly question, but is that midnight at the start of the day or at the end of it?!

Re: Missing Episodes
To my understanding, films on iTunes don't have to be certified by the British Board of Film Censors, a process that can take time and is public (one of the way people can find out forthcoming dvd releases is to type in "Doctor Who" in the BBFC website's search field and see what has been certified), so if they want an immediate release after revealing the new episodes then iTunes is probably the best way forward. As well as quick dosh, of course. The" co="Ordinator wrote:They may be, but in the short term at least it's so much easier to simply put them up on itunes for £6 or £8 or whatever per story. Gets the money rolling in without having to use the distribution chain. Massive profit margin and loads of dosh for BBC Worldwide.andrea wrote:Why might they never be released on DVD? A money thing because they think they have a limited market for back and white or what?
I imagine a dvd release will follow at some point.

Re: Missing Episodes
the prints will probably be "bicycled" prints full of Australian/NZ censor cuts and the BBC doesn't have all the cuts (for example The Web of Fear episode 6).

I see, sent from there to Ethiopia. There's probably a list in that DWM article from a few months ago of what was sold where.Glendenning wrote:the prints will probably be "bicycled" prints full of Australian/NZ censor cuts and the BBC doesn't have all the cuts (for example The Web of Fear episode 6).

Re: Missing Episodes
For some reason i thought it was this morning, but it's from 3 to 7. There's supposed to be an embargo until Saturday, i hope it all leaks out.
Levine says that if we should all buy these 9 because then the beeb will buy more from Phillip Morris. That can't be right, can it?

The prints of TTM and TWM recovered from Nigeria in 1984 had been "bicycled" to Nigeria from New Zealand and were full of NZ censor cuts

I didn't invent the term "bicycling" - it was common for the BBC to request that one broadcaster send on film prints to another purchasing broadcaster rather than strike new prints.

Re: Missing Episodes
I think the Saturday embargo is confusion over the wording of the press release stating 12.00 Friday: it should be midnight tonight when the embargo is lifted (enough time for journalists to write copy for tomorrow morning's papers). Of course, the beady eyed amongst us will be looking for online stories that are posted early for whatever reason.Rich Flair wrote:For some reason i thought it was this morning, but it's from 3 to 7. As to the reimbursement of Phillip Morris, from what I've read elsewhere, he's spent years looking for lost tv episodes, so I can't blame him for giving the BBC (and ITV, for whom missing tv episodes have been discovered) a hefty bill.
I'll certainly buy them in iTunes, but ever since Stormy was born I've watched more and more tv via laptop.
