Hohum. It looks as if Uncle Rusty is pulling the same "This is the story of how I died" trick he pulled with Doomsday. Unless Torchwood is taking place in an alternative reality, the world cannot end at the conclusion of this story, because even with the Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey nature of the series, future history established in the series cannot be changed that much.

Like The Browncoat Cat, I don't think the world can end during series 3 of Torchwood, but one of my theories is that the Doctor doesn't show up and saves the day in Children of Earth because he really, really can't be there (he's in worse trouble himself?) and that could be a link with this year's remaining Doctor Who specials.
