Re: Movie News
I think this might just be the dark horse surprise hit of the latest batch of comic book movies. And Joe Johnson has already proven himself a director who really handles this type of movie well.

Re: Movie News
And Disney have just announced that Dame Agatha Christie's Spinster detective, Miss Marple is to make a return to the big screen in the form of... 38 year old Jennifer Garner.
Here's the full announcement:
Agatha Christie's famous elderly sleuth Miss Marple is to get a shock makeover - Jennifer Garner is the surprise choice to play the iconic character in Disney's modern day re-invention of the series.
Instead of the mature spinster who solves crimes in an English village, the revamped version will star Hollywood beauty Garner, 38. It's not yet known if the film's setting will be in America or the UK.
Actresses who have played the sleuth include Dame Margaret Rutherford, Gracie Fields and Joan Hickson. Angela Lansbury also played the heroine in 1980's 'The Mirror Crack'd' alongside Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis.
'Twin Peaks' screenwriter Mark Frost will be on writing duties for the re-invention of one of the most famous fictional sleuths ever created. According to the LA Times, Disney are "looking to do a contemporary version with an edge."
Just take me out back and shoot me now please.

In the name of all that is Holy.
As we're being overhwelmed by lazy remakes, here's the first image from "Rise of the Apes".

Re: Movie News
Yet another just no here.
I'm more than satisfied with the original "Ape" movies. Burton's "re-imagining" brought precisely zero wit or intelligence to a formula that was already proven to work.

Re: Movie News
Burton's version does stay truer to the original source novel, especially with the ending. However Pierre Boule's Monkey World is a very dull novel, so it is not surprising that Burton made a very dull movie.Sid Seadevil wrote:I'm more than satisfied with the original "Ape" movies. Re: Movie News
Absolutely so. I well recall being bored near comatose when I read Pierre Boule's novel back in the day. Which only makes me appreciate Rod Serling's wonderful "Planet" screnplay even more.

Re: Movie News
Contemporary, dear God no. This casting would only have worked in a prequel to the Christie novels, set in the 1920's. Jane Marple could be one of the many women whose fiancé, her one true love, had died in World War I and was getting used to life on the shelf.Sid Seadevil wrote:And Disney have just announced that Dame Agatha Christie's Spinster detective, Miss Marple is to make a return to the big screen in the form of... 38 year old Jennifer Garner.
Re: Movie News
That really is just about the only way this could have conceivably worked. All this does is strip away everything that's unique about the character and make her a generic female detective. Plus, you just know they'll give her a love interest. The Browncoat Cat wrote:Contemporary, dear God no. This casting would only have worked in a prequel to the Christie novels, set in the 1920's. Here's what may be considered *movie news* in a lose way. I watched Hot Fuzz for the first time a few days ago. Not what I expected at all, really loved it.

I still haven't seen "Hot Fuzz" myself yet as it happens. But now you've given it the thumbs-up, then I'll be sure to catch it soon.
