Re: Movie News
That doesn't look too bad actually. Better than Burton's at any rate.

Re: Movie News
The Apes film looks as if it's set in the original movie continuity. As for the Crow - pointless.

Re: Movie News
I tend to agree there. They did it properly the first time, and have attempted to repeat the process in sequels and on TV with little success.Sid Seadevil wrote:As for the Crow - pointless.

Re: Movie News
Exactly. I've always seen the point of remakes as being to redo something that never quiet worked in the original. In the Crow's case that clearly isn't the case - thus the remake is redundant from the outset.

Re: Movie News
Here's a story that made me sit up and take notice this morning: Ridley Scott to direct new "Blade Runner" film.
Read the full LA Times article, but here's the bit that stood out for me:
"Over the course of one meeting, they hashed out how a new film would look, how it could avoid seeming too similar to the many movies that have since paid homage to the original, and how different the new film should be from the original itself. They eventually decided it should stand as separately as possible."
And this:
"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott," Kosove said. "But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."
After reading this article, I'm warming to the idea. Will it be a prequel? Will it be a carrying-on of the original, sans Harrison Ford? One thing you have to admit: Ridley Scott has been tinkering with director's cuts and various content on the original, theatrical release, since the advent of home video. And he seems to have a real fire in the belly to take on this new project.
Bad news: don't expect this in theatres much before 2014.

Re: Movie News
Why though, just why? Perhaps the success of Rise of Planet of the Apes has made them try and cash in.

Re: Movie News
I think you got it partially right. The success of Rise of Planet of the Apes appears to have validated Hollywood's desire to plumb its own past, since, as you've pointed out, its pretty dead creatively otherwise.

Re: Movie News
That might've fast-tracked it a bit, but I posted about them planning new Blade Runner films back in March I think, so this is something that's been percolating for a little while now. Hollywood does love their remakes. I only hope this one turns out to be a good one, rather than a rehash with flashier effects. The Co=Ordinator wrote:Why though, just why?
