I wouldn't be surprised to see Tony Jordan write an episode in the next year or so.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Sadly, as my wish list for series 6 was topped off with 'no more bloody River Song' and 'no more stories by Mark Gatiss', I'm not expecting anything else I might wish for to come true.
Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Hmmm...I see what you mean, Nick. I could certainly use a rest from both of them myself. And that's despite of the fact that I actually like Alex Kingston very much.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Alex Kingston's fine, it's just the character's incredibly annoying, especially when we're being told how special and wonderful she is when she's done nothing to prove it.
Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Agreed. I think River as a character veers dangerously close to being an example of the definition of "Mary Sue", territory.

I can't remember this-- when have we been told she's special and wonderful? If anything, we've been told that she's not to be trusted.Nick Barlow wrote:Alex Kingston's fine, it's just the character's incredibly annoying, especially when we're being told how special and wonderful she is when she's done nothing to prove it.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Personally, I enjoyed River Song in the library story but I would have preferred her to remain just in that story I think. A mystery we never understand.
I'm OK with Mark Gatiss writing another story. His stories haven't been highlights for me but neither have they been depths.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Well, Lee - she was pretty special and wonderful in Silence in the Library. What perhaps Nick meant is 'what's she got that causes the Doctor to fall in love and marry her'? Then again, the Doctor might not, and their relationship as hinted at in Silence in the Library could be a big red herring!

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
According to popular rumor, Series 6 is where we will get to see what River did to get herself arrested- apparently it involves killing a good man.
Now, this I want to see.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
I feel River is a very good character - just in danger of overexposure. I do suspect she's almost (possibly even unconsciously) an alter-ego for Moffat in certain way.
Certainly he seems to delight in using her as a stick with which to poke certain sections of fandom almost gleefully. (And actually, there's really nowt wrong with that).

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Yep, I continue to view River Song as a possible con. She says and does a lot to keep the Doctor off balance, but I'm curious as to what the truth is. There are times I wonder if that diary was ever really hers or just something she found (or stole) and added to. So I look forward to seeing the story continue.Rich Flair wrote:Well, Lee - she was pretty special and wonderful in Silence in the Library. According to THIS CNN ARTICLE, Series 6 will air on BBC America the same day it airs in the UK.
Interesting.

The article specifically mentions that, yes, that was part of the idea. So was wanting to boost ratings by getting the folks who view each new episode through "alternate means" to actually watch it on the network.

Hmmmmm...might work to a limited extent I suppose. But I wouldn't hold out too much hope. Although saying that, good viewing numbers for it on BBCA can only be welcomed.

A good idea, but it would help if more cable companies actually carried the channel. Can't watch what you don't have.Patrick wrote:Sid Seadevil wrote:Very interesting. An anti-piracy measure perhaps?

Cable service companies can drop or add cable networks at any time. All it takes is enough viewers to request the addition of BBC-America.
Or, these viewers can switch to a satellite dish provider. I think Direct-TV carries it, and I have Dish Network, so I can confirm they definately have it.

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Makes sense. How many of the cable companies do carry it? And what do they charge for it to be included in your package?

Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
Indeed. Though, for example, I've been bugging my cable provider for the channel for years and it's done no good thus far. Not enough people are asking for it I guess.Patrick wrote:Cable service companies can drop or add cable networks at any time. All it takes is enough viewers to request the addition of BBC-America.
And, living in an apartment complex that doesn't allow for dish TV, these options sadly don't work for me either. So I'm kind of forced to use alternate means for the time being. Hopefully the channel will start appearing in more line-ups as Doctor Who's profile grows in America.Patrick wrote:Or, these viewers can switch to a satellite dish provider. And here's the main advantage to living in the UK when it comes to Who. By law both cable and satellite providers must carry the five main channels by law. So everybody has access to the show - whether they want it or not.Zoltar wrote:Indeed. We should have such a law here as well.Sid Seadevil wrote:And here's the main advantage to living in the UK when it comes to Who. By law both cable and satellite providers must carry the five main channels by law. So everybody has access to the show - whether they want it or not.
