Technically, we do. There's an FCC regulation that all cable service providers, including satellite dish companies, carry free of charge the local market broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, CW, and any local market independent stations.) When you get cable or satellite, what you're paying for is the array of cable networks they carry.
Depending upon the cable network, and whether is considered a "basic cable channel" or a "premium channel," the cost that cable service provider pays (and passes the cost along to you) will depend on how many subscribers they have. BBC-America tends to be of the middle tier networks, somewhere between a network like CNN and a premium network like History International or HBO. It all depends on what level of service you subscribe to.
Oh, and Zoltar, regarding your apartment complex's banning of satellite dishes- you do know there was a Supreme Court ruling several years ago that supported and FCC regulation and struck down complaints from a home owners association that wanted to prevent people from installing satellite dishes on the outside of their homes due to aesthetic concerns. The law basically says no owner's association can interfere with a citizen's right to access communication facilities. This, I believe, also applies to apartments. As long as you can attach a satellite antenna in a way that isn't permanent (such as bracketing it to a balcony), your apartment complex cannot legally stop you from subscribing to a satellite dish service. We have apartments all over town where, when you look at the balconies, people have taken advantage of this.

I wasn't being serious, I was just making a joke that it should be the law that we all get Doctor Who.Patrick wrote:Technically, we do. I subscribe to the highest level my cable company provides, they simply don't carry BBCA. And given the recent costly battles they've gotten into (and lost) with certain networks (ABC and Fox for example) over carriage fees, I'm not sure they're looking to add another channel right now.Patrick wrote:Depending upon the cable network, and whether is considered a "basic cable channel" or a "premium channel," the cost that cable service provider pays (and passes the cost along to you) will depend on how many subscribers they have. I know nothing about that ruling, only that no one here has a dish and the complex forbids it. While I may be able to legally fight them on such a matter based on the ruling you mention, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble I'd get for it from the board or the other owners.Patrick wrote:Oh, and Zoltar, regarding your apartment complex's banning of satellite dishes- you do know there was a Supreme Court ruling several years ago that supported and FCC regulation and struck down complaints from a home owners association that wanted to prevent people from installing satellite dishes on the outside of their homes due to aesthetic concerns. I am looking into another cable provider that does carry BBCA, but life's been too busy at the moment for me to pursue it further.

Well, it didn't take long: THE SERIES 6 TRAILER is now up on the Tube of You.
Hmm...
Let the speculation begin!
Hmm...
- Spoiler:
- -River doesn't seem to like the Doctor wearing hats.
-The Doctor is a prisoner
-An Ood with green eyes?
Let the speculation begin!

Hmm...
- Spoiler:
- -The Doctor Looking like an old Hippy, how long has he been held prisoner.
-Girl in historical underwear, probably Restoration, it would fit with what the first lot of men we see are wearing, wonder if we are going to have a proper Historical with no SF references at all?
-Nazi storm troopers. Real or nightmare, I would imagine nightmare, The Sara Jane Adventures has just done the real thing.
-Good God Utah looks good
-The Doctor in the Oval Office. Although first Churchill, now JFK; The Doctor being at the beck and call of famous Earth leaders does seem to be a bit out of character.
-Green Oods. I was not exepecting them back. Looks like their the lobotomised variety as well, I wonder if this story pre-dates Planet of the Ood
OK, so this first half of Series 32 looks completely and utterly outstanding. I love the fact that the whole thing looks so cinematic. This should finally silence all those loons over on GB who bellyache about foreign location shooting. No, you can't get that sort of vista in a quarry in Wenvo, no matter how hard you try.
Re: Series 6: What Would YOU Like to See?
One other thought that struck me, Cat, upon rewatching that trailer.
- Spoiler:
- There was a brief scene featuring River Song on the set of what looked like the time machine from The Lodger. That looked pretty interesting.

Fezzes make one's jawline look soft and paunchy, a Stetson however, balances out the face with a broad curved brim....

So, what you're saying is that a Stetson suits the broad of face.

Definitely. Fezes have no brims, so they do not shade the head at all. Stetsons have nice wide brims that produce lots of shade during the heat of the day. So naturally, Stetsons are cooler than Fezes.Kate wrote:The Co=Ordinator wrote:Stetsons are cool.

I would like a Rory-centric episode, please Mr. Moffat. Perhaps even a Doctor and Amy-lite?
Am I being too analytical in noticing that some of the corridors in the trailer have roundels in them? :p

I'd certainly second a Rory-centric episode. The character could certainly support one.
As for the possible roundels in the corridor...
