Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
A thought's just struck me, and apologies if I've missed something or am being thick, but, with the Hub gone, is the rift at Cardiff now sealed or out of control?

We don't know.
I think the Rift is still there, it's just that now no one is watching it.
I suppose we won't find out until the BBC says something about the fate of Torchwood as an ongoing series. Did I miss an announcement?

Or if Doc 11 makes a trip to Cardiff...Dave Webb wrote:Graymalkin wrote:A thought's just struck me, and apologies if I've missed something or am being thick, but, with the Hub gone, is the rift at Cardiff now sealed or out of control?

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
I'd like to think that it's out of control, and that even as we speak PC Andy is busy rounding up Roman centurions and lost Sontarans on Cardiff high street.Graymalkin wrote:A thought's just struck me, and apologies if I've missed something or am being thick, but, with the Hub gone, is the rift at Cardiff now sealed or out of control?

'PC Andy: Time Patrol'. Like those cop shows on ITV (Send in the Dogs, Road Wars, Cops with Cameras etc), but with more Zygons and Nazis.

A thought that struck me is that I have something in common with RTD as a writer now, as we've both written for Louise Minchin - she was the BBC newsreader in COE, and I used to write travel news scripts for her when she was working for Five Live.

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
The Hub just monitored the Rift, it didn't have any control over the thing. I suspect that Victorian Torchwood did not even know the Rift was there when they built the Hub. In fact until Jack arrived, they had no idea why so much alien weirdness kept turning up in what was at the time a provincial Welsh town with a growing coal exporting port.Graymalkin wrote:A thought's just struck me, and apologies if I've missed something or am being thick, but, with the Hub gone, is the rift at Cardiff now sealed or out of control?
Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
Right. That settles it. We demand that PC Andy be given his own show.

RTD is bound to have a look in here at some point. That should convince him. *nods in superbly confident manner*
Oh. And while he's reading this he should consider the following.
If Doctor Who is a children's programme, Mr Davies, then why does it have all the soppy kissing?
Ha! That'll fox him!

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
YAY !!!
I've just seen the trailer for Children of Earth on French TV !!
You can see the trailer here: http://www.allocine.fr/video/player_gen_cmedia=18930039&cserie=3044.html
It's weird, seeing it in French is a bit like discovering it anew.
But I'm not entirely happy with the "On va revenir bientôt" (We are coming back), it sounded much better in English.
Oh well, I guess it's un-dubb-able anyway, it isn't a translation mistake or anything. (really hoping there aren't too many of these, because I'll spot them straight away if that's the case)

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
I have to agree, BadWolf, "On va revenir beintot" looses something in translation and doesn't sound quite as menacing. Still, the fact that Torchwood has made it to French television is a good thing.
Any idea what the ratings were like?

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
It hasn't been broadcast yet, it will be shown on November 17th and 23
Here's the chanel's website: http://nrj12.fr/
They promote Torchwood very well everytime new episodes are about to be shown. In a few days it'll show on the website, and there'll be trailers at most commercial breaks.

Double posting to say that Chilfren of Earth has finished airing on NRJ12, it was good in French - save for a few things, but the dubbing was ok in general

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
Last week on a UK Channel we had "Children of Earth" - Monday to Friday. Of course I watched it again! (I have watched my recording several times since its airing.)
I truly believe it is one of the very best science fiction programmes on British television! The writing is superb, the acting is superb, it just IS superb!!!
People have said it was wrong that Capt. Jack sacrificed his own grandson. BUT - when you think about it = since it needed a CHILD who's child should he have chosen??? By what criterion? Capt. Jack had only ONE choice: his own grandson!
