Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
Thanks to a kind soul on the other side of The Pond, I finally got to see the first episode this morning on Tube of You. Very good opening episode.
I shall now have to go off and peruse the Frank blog.

i also have bought "the war games" on dvd. lots of extra stuff
I nearly bought Trial of a Time Lord yesterday for £26. The I realised it was crap and I only wanted to watch the documentaries about how crap it is. So I'll wait until it's under £20.
Dont do it Rich, dont do it.....
I was fortunate enough to see the first 3 of TW COE on Sat. Not being a big TW fan, I wasnt exactly excited by the prospect.
But it really blew me away.
Theres a for gawds sake moment in Ep 2 that is sheer RTD convenience but picks up again in Ep 3.
Clem the sniffing guy has a hilariously offensiove line in Ep 3 towards Ianto.
Ill come back to that on Weds night.....
But it works better with 3. You get to visit the characters and it hads time to breath whereas with 5, you pretty much had to dedicate a whole ep to the one character to get and semblence of character development.
As much as I liked Owen and Tosh, TW for me anyway works with 3.
But yeah...Loved it.
Well paced and great fun.

It cracked me up that he was still bothering to wear a hi-vis jacket and a safety helmet!

I love how much he loves Jack. It makes me go "Awwww."
Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
I'm certainly developing a new respect for him.
And even Gwen and Rhys managed to be halfway competent. Is this really the same show?

I'm sure he'd claim that was solely for disguise, not because procedure dictated it...Colin Hicks wrote:It cracked me up that he was still bothering to wear a hi-vis jacket and a safety helmet!
I was trying to think how I'd describe that scene to someone with no knowledge of Torchwood or Who, and realised that it was officially Completely Batsh1t Insane and Russell T Davies is - if he wasn't already - the official Mad God of British TV.
Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
It was admirably bonkers, wasn't it? I swear the title music should be replaced by the sound of RTD giggling.

Re: Torchwood: Children of Earth
For me episode 2 was by some way better than the first. And I think I gave that a 'very good'. This is becoming *must watch TV*.

Oh, and they've well & truly buggered up the planned Wrinkly visit to Cardiff Bay.

I was really disappointed in RTD after the big sloppy amorphous mess that was the end of series four, but this Torchwood has just blown me away. I now think RTD is excellent.

I agree with what you said about Rhys, by the way. He's really come into his own, whereas before the writers didn't really know what to do with him so he appeared to be a useless numpty.barnaby salton wrote:any excuse for a good photo opp

I think PC Andy should get his own spin off.
I mean, nothing can beat a bit of local knowledge , can it?
Brilliant.
I only have issues with Ianto escaping on a JCB at , what, a max of 20 miles an hour from Govt soldiers?
Ep 3 holds up but watch what car Jack steals....

Given the cut backs in the defence budget, that would easily outrun a Government helicopter.
